Could you guys list all the options that the Infiniti has over the Maxima? It seems a fully loaded GLE (or SE) has a lot of options: leather, electronic climate control, power seats, sunroof, leather, heated seats, ABS, etc. So what options are available for the I30 not available for the Max.? And I am more interested in functional items, I don't really need a list of say chrome parts, etc. Thanks guys.

Thanks for the quick response Mike. Yeah, '97 is a fair example, I should have specified 4th gen., sorry. The main reason I am asking is because I want to see what I can buy that would fit on my Maxima. I already planned on buying a leather e-brake handle. I have a few comments about your reply.

1.) While your specific example of cornering lights, using '97, is accurate, I would like to point out that '95/'96 Maximas had cornering lights.
2.) When you say "Cloth insert door panel and simulated leather.", what exactly do you mean? My '96 GLE has the simulated leather above the armrest and a carpeted insert below the armrest. Is yours different?
3.) As far as I know, all GLEs have the push-out storage tray.

A few more questions. Do you guys have memory seats? Do you guys have the "PRND" readout in the instrument cluster? Do you guys have outside temperature display in the '96/'97s? And lastly, do you guys have a damn light under the hood!? Thanks guys.

Are you sure they have real cornering lights. As in when you use your turn signal they light up the whole side of the road? By the looks of the lighting set up on a 95-96 Max I don't see where any cornering lights are located. Please clarify.

I was wondering about that one. I thought I had seen A GLE with those options, but I did not appear on the specs for a 97 Max??? I kinda think I am wrong there.
Same with the pop-out tray. I know some Max owners that have them, but again it is not listed on the specs for a 97 Max.

Memory seats, no.

PRND read out, I don't know I got a 5-speed. It should be in the bottom-middle of the bexel right. I don't have a cut out or place for one.

Outside temp on 96-97, Nope.

No light under the hood which always baffled me. There looks to be a switch that is activated when the hood goes up, but no light.

I think that switch is the hood alarm

Yes, I promise you Mike that the '95/'96 Maximas have cornering/clearance lights. And I beleive that is all trim lines, not just GLE. And from what I have read, it is not a difficult mod to add the feature to '97/'99s. They are the separate lights on the outsides of the headlights.

I35's have a power rear sunshade. This may be on some I30s also.

You mean the turn signals? that is not the same as cornering lights. We have the same corner lamps and then another set of cornering lights next to the fogs. Do the lights you speak of on the max blink or stay on untill the blinker is turned off.

Our cornering lamps can easily be seen in these pics.

Don't forget 4 year and 50K warranty. They always give you a loaner when you go in for service. For ex: you take your 97 in for some work, they put you in a G35 to drive as a loaner and they wash your car to boot! Not a bad deal!

No, the bumper lense in our car has the blinker in it(as well as parking lights). The lights on the outsides of the headligts are also parking lights but in the '95/'96s are clearance lights as well. They have a dual filament bulb which lights brighter when you use the blinker. Did I make that clear?

I got ya. But I don't like it. I thought for sure the cornering lights were an I30 exclusive.

Ouch that hurts.

I wasn't LOLing at you, I was LOLing with you.

Hey Mike, all you had to do was tell me you had a light under the hood and I would have been on my knees worshipping you.

But hey, you still have your VSLD.

The only reason I can think they dumped the cornering lights from 97-03 is to give the infinity's another benifit. I love them on my 95 and miss them on my 2000. And I think I read somewhere that 3rd gen max's had cornering lights too.

I thought of another one. If I am not mistaken, I beleive you guys have a back map pocket on each of the front seat backs. I only have one on the back of the passenger.

I had another question for you guys, do you have 'fuzzy pillars' on all '96-'99s? The Maxima only had them on '95/'96 GLEs. All others have hard plastic.

Lastly, what year did the I30 get 1) Traction control 2) Outside temp 3) Security chip key?

Thanks guys.

We also have a one piece rear floormat that covers the "hump" in the middle and has the Infiniti logo on it.

And yes, we have upholstered pillars and two seatback pockets.

I think we got traction control in 1999, and I'm not sure if outside temp was included with the digital odometer and stuff (if it was, then it came in 1998), and the chip key I think was 1999, but if not definitely 2000. I could be off on this though, and I think i30ds really knows his stuff when it comes to the options and equipment for our cars so he'll probably chime in shortly.

edit: We also have those really nice silver keys before the chipped keys came...

The only true options for the I30 were leather, sunroof, heated seats/ outside mirrors/ low washer fluid light, home link, auto dimming rearview mirror, sport suspension, spoiler, auto tranny and VLSD.

Optional Maxima stuff like Bose, auto climate control, dual power seats, wood trim, and tail pipe finisher, were standard.

All years came with unique stuff like fuzzy a,b, and c pillars, chrome inside handles, dual map pockets on the backs of the seats, and rear head rests. Also we have electronic fuel and trunk releases, and the switches are not on the floor like the max, they are below the gauge cluster.

The only traction control system available for the I30 was the VLSD. The 98-99 got the outside temp display. I do not know about the security chip (not even sure what that is to be honest).

To answer your question about the PRND lights in the gauge cluster, the Japanse cefiro got them but the USDM I30 did not. I don't know why, but since I am going 5MT, I do not care .

Ohh, thank you sir for the write up on the SC install!!

I'd love to get gauges with the PRND12 if it was down the middle of the speedo and tach. Is the how the Cefiros ones are set up and are they black face?

i'm working on that for my maxima. our gauge clusters have the slots built in for them, they just need bulbs put in, the actually "slide" type piece that has the numbers and letters on them, and i'm not sure if they're wired up yet but according to the infamous <craig> with the 3rd gen, the wiring shouldn't be hard at all.

if i'm successful i'm gonna make a write up in the 4th gen forum and i'll be sure to send it your way.

it would be nice though to be able to buy a cefiro cluster and save myself the trouble. anyone have any connections to junkyards over there or anyone??

Old people...Yeah what a waste...lol My I-30t has everything but rear spoiler, heated seats, navigation, and traction control. I was looking for a 02 Maxima when I bought my 00 but overall the I-30t was more of a car. I did like the 3.5 motor (hell yes).

Lol, I have some weird combo of everything

Being a an international Maxima (well international to you guys anyway ) from the outside it looks like an I30 but alot of the interior looks like the Maxima, but with some stuff from the I30. Examples: I have dual map pockets and the auto off interior lights (inlcuding the map lights). I have the lowest of the Maxima models for my year though, the top model has pretty much everything the I30 has. 98-99 models have that PRND21 thing you're talking about, as do the Cefiros so that's something none of you guys have I don't think Maximas here have VLSD (hard to tell with no transmission code on the chassis plate), but the Cefiros do.

Oh and Nissan dealers here sound like your Inifniti dealers. When ever I take my car to the local dealer for a service I'm always given a late model loan car and they wash my car once they're done with it (including putting on that stuff that makes your tyres new and shiny). They put Rain-X on the front and rear windows last time I took it to them and they gave me a Nissan rubbish bag and Nissan tissues. Lol, the guy was probably joking, but he also offered me a discount on the latest Maxima since mine helped sell one while it was there (a possible buyer wanted to know how long they can last and they showed the guy mine which has done close to 300,000km's and he then apparantly purchased the car).

Gotta love the cornering lights. The first night I had my car and noticed they were there I was like "YES!". Just to clarify the 3rd gen Max did have them.

Also the sunshade.....mine never is down.....Whenever I see some 7 series or S class with thiers up I chuckle to myself. It's a luxurious touch.

Also the Infiniti warranty is for 60k not 50. I would get the Infiniti just for the service alone. Take this example: About 3 or 4 months ago I got my warped rotors resurfaced and new front pads. Well, last week I took it back because the rotors seemed warped again. So, they resurfaced all the rotors again and gave me all new pads, including the rear ones which I didn't even pay for to begin with for *FREE*. All while I was ragging out a new '05 G35 with the 280HP in the twisties. Talk about service, I mean that's close to 4 or 500 dollars work they did for free!!! They really roll out the red carpet for you at Infinti.

Do the I35's have the VLSD? This 3.5 is so powerful my slip light blinks almost every time I drive. I thought only the 5th gen 6spd Max got the VLSD.

You are VERY welcome for the SC write-up. Thank you for the thank-you! And thanks for the reply. Are you sure '98s had outside temp. display? In the Maxima, even though the '98s had the redesigned ACC unit, it did not make available the physical 'AMB' button (although it is there behind the face. Some people have added a button for it). As for the security chip, it was available on the Maxima first in '99 (maybe '98 but I am pretty sure '99). It is called 'VES' (vehicle emobilizer system?). There is a chip in the key and the car will not start without the chip. It's great - until you need a replacement key which is $60 + $81 for programming. :I

Just thought I'd let you know that those PRND lights are fairly cheap to get here. I rang around some local wreckers for Jepht20 and found they go for around NZ$45 or US$28. The guy I talked to mentioned they do differ a bit through the years so I might see if I can go there in the next day or two and get some pics of the different designs (if they do actually differ).

Depending on how many they have in stock, it might be a good idea to set up a group buy of some sort. To save on shipping I could ship them all to one person and then from there that person could distribute them
