Hi all, new poster (long time lurker).
Think its time to change my battery after I couldnt start my car last night without a jump. Plus its been taking longer to start for the past week or so and the lights would be pretty dim for about 10 minutes until I guess the battery got fully charged.
I've got a 98 I30t w/ the heavy duty battery. Should I get another one of those (I dread going to the dealer) or get a Die Hard Gold or something like that?
Thanks

I've seen Optima batteries at Sam's and Costco, but you can find them at Pep Boys too. Either way, Optimas are far superior to any other battery out there. Get the yellow top unless you have a big aftermarket sound system or some other constant draw on the electrical system, in which case you'll want the red top, since it's a deep cycle battery.

you got it backwards, yellowtops are for big systems and reds are for normal starts, the yellow is a deep cycle,
racerx, where in bergen county are you?

I've only got the Bose system, so the optima might seem like a little much, but too much power is better than too little. I think I might give that a try.
I'm in Teaneck. Blissfully far enough away from rt 46, ***erboro, and ******* planes going out of control across the highway!!!

I just replaced mine with a Yellow Top. Had to bend the connector to fit as the terminal is further in on the battery.
Also, have you alternator checked out. I had the same issue with mine. Replaced the battery with the Yellow top and it ran great for 4 days. Then barely had enough power to get me to the dealer. Turns out the alternator was completely shot and I had been running off just the battery for the 4 days.

Tigger- I'll get the alternator checked out on Saturday. I think I'll get the battery tomorrow morning just so I can get to work and back (otherwise no $$$ to pay for the new alternator haha.)
SubX - who's your aunt? I graduated from THS way way back in '95.

Sub- Dont think I know her. Or possibly dont remember her since I was pretty baked for much of HS.
You Optima guys know why on the Optima website no matches come up for a 98 I30? Two choices come up for a 98 Max, so I figure one of those would work.

they have choices? it hought it was justa general size. thought it was just a red top, i mean i have looekd at their stuff, i know the weights, the composition and stuff, but its just one size i think. go to the sears like i said well not good year, the sears auto center, i look online and they have them, i looked alil while ago when my started went, i thought that i may need a new batt

There are definately different sizes, not sure which ones work best though. I know mine is a little short compared to the stock battery. My battery post doesn't even touch the top of the battery. I'm not even sure if they make one that will fit with the stock battery posts but there are a few people on the org that sell replacement battery tie downs that are made to fit the Optimas.
The red top you want is Part No. SC34U w/ 800 CCA (try finding that in a die hard or interstate). Thats the one. I have it mine and it is direct fit.
