decisions, decisions....

Well now that I am ready to order my JWT/ECU upgrade I keep getting tempted to go a different route.
There are so many things I want to do.

Switch from my Eibach/tokico's to sprint/AGX
Give the stillen body kit a try
Drilled/slotted rotors and SS lines
New rims
The list goes on.......

It is so frustrating trying to decided what to do. I had my mind made up on the ECU for the last month or two. Now that I have cash in hand it is sooo tempting to do so many other things, the amount the ECU costs is enough to do go a few different routes.

I will probably get the ECU, but anybody else think I should go with one of the other mods?

Go for the ecu man, your car already looks tight. I used to have the tokico eibach setup on a honda prelude and it was about as good as it gets.

What are you looking for the most? Power? Suspension? Or looks? When you decide that, then you can make your choice.

Red pill? Blue pill?

For me, I'd go with the suspension (or audio), but that's me.

Hmm...this is a toughy..

I would say pass on the JWT/ECU upgrade...your car is pretty fast as is.

I would go ahead and round things out. Your suspension seems more than capable - if anything, I'd do something like SFC's rather than ditch a fully functional setup that you already have.

You already have 17" wheels, right? If you're going to 18" I don't think you'll notice that much difference..

I would start working on the interior/exterior - stillen kit, nice A/V setup inside. That or a nice brake upgrade...I think that's something that's often missed and underappreciated.

Of course, that's JMO...do what works best for you. I think max5spd said it best, which pill are you going for? Or would you rather have a balance of both?

Well I decided on the ECU. I really want a 13 sec time slip this fall. So I'll do that, then finish my exhaust with a cat-back, get some slicks and I should be able to pull a 13.9.
I might just get some sprints and keep my tokicos and see how they hold up. That would only cost around $100.

Maybe next summer will be a body kit.

I dunno. Personally I don't think the I30 is really supposed to be a speedster. It's more of a looks car so why not accent the positives? Get the rims. You'll get 100 times more satisfaction because you'll see that everyone else is looking at your car everytime you drive it. ECU is nice, but no one on earth will notice it. Get some nice chrome or polished wheels, get the sprints, get the A32 spoiler. I promise everytime you see your car you'll stop and admire it.. I know I do.

I've been thinking of doing a max body kit too. Probably the Ionic skirts because I like their simple looks..No idea what to get for the front and rear because I hate the wide mouth, too many angles, huge grill look, most maxima kits give. Or maybe salvage around a junk yard..who knows what other kits (at least skirts) will fit an I30.

If you had a 5-speed you might change your mind about the speedster comment

I have done enough apperance mods. Only thing else I would do would be a subtle body kit. I am more concerned with performance.
Apperance mods I are already have:

17" ASA ka3 rims w/235 45 Re950's
Cefiro one-piece headlights
Eibach pro-kit springs
Red/clear tails
chrome gauge rings
20%tint
Cefiro badges

If anyone has not seen pics of my car look here

Thanks for your comments guys.

Sounds like I'm too late to add my opinion, but I would do the ecu as well. No one knows that its there until you start pulling on them. I'm weighing my options of a S-AFC or the ECU, I think other that the 7000 rpm I think I would want to tune my fuel maps. I'm not sure if JWT has done any MEVI tunning yet, I doubt it. They've been promising the 97-99 an ECU upgrade for 2 years and still nothing.

Yhea, I am sending in my ECU as soon as my spare arrives.
I heard they have not done any tunning with a VI at all. Your top end would be crazy with a VI, nitrous, and 7000k rev limiter.

Although they don't upgrade a 97+ ECU, you should be able to use a reprogramed 95-96 ECU, only problem being a CEL. I believe someone is already using a 96 JWT/ECU in a 97.

I guess it all depends on what you're looking for, if you have a 5-speed (especially the base model like i do), I really don't think that an I30 would be much, if any slower than a maxima. Peformance modifications can cost a lot less than new wheels, plus he has some pretty decent ones on his car already. I'd say go for the ECU, you'll like the gains and w/the VI, you need the extra 500 RPMS.

2 questions for ya.

Have you gotten your VI working correctly yet and have you been to the track?

Sadly no and no. I've been very busy w/school, so I really haven't paid very much attention to my car. Once i'm done w/finals I'll have to mess around under the hood and hopefully see whats up with my VI. Once I get it all working though, I'll definitely end up heading out to the track and probably getting a dyno.
