hit and run
I was hit on the highway today. Sitting in rush hour traffic today, at a complete standstill, I was RAILED from behind. I than slammed into the guy in front me. Thankfully no one was hurt, short of my aching back. I was hit at approximately 25 mph. I then proceeded to check on everyone, they were fine. The guy behind me (1988 Sunbird) was completely oblivious. (24 yr. old black kid, with wife/girlfriend and 2 year old child) When I asked for his insurance he said he was from wisconsin and didnt need insurance. Then I said we were going to move off to the shoulder, he then took off. Thankfully I wrote down his plates. So the Illinois state police got there, and the fun began.
Basically the police said they can not do anything about the guy. They will send him a hit and run claim but he can tell them to *** off. As long as he doesnt get arrested in Illinois he doesnt have to do anything. (thankfully insurance companies have wider juristiction)
So after the LONG process of writing the accident reports I finally got to my buddies body shop. Thankfully the rear end doesnt seem to have major damage. The front end is pancaked and the body lines are jacked up, up front.
Sadly the police and myself havent been able to find a phone number for this guy, just an address. Anyone from wisconsin know where scott city milwaukee, wis. is? I'd love to go bash this ***ers head in, but I am sure it's more trouble than it is worth. My only concern is that my back isn't completely jacked up.
I guess this is a story of why we have uninsured motorist insurance on our own policies. Just sucks that Ill have to eat the deducable and the insurance increase. hopefully there will be a happy ending, perhaps garnish wages on this guy. I just cant imagine the feeling of railing 80K worth of cars in your $500 beater.
