Should I Install my HIDs??

I have had my HID kit sitting in my trunk for over a month now. It's the McCulloch H4 5300k kit. I had a Virginia safety inspection due last month and I finally got around to getting it done this week, and I failed due to my belts and rear brake pads needing replacement. It'll probably be another week before I get it back there to get it re-inspected. I have to wait to pass inspection before I put the HIDs in. In the meantime I have decided that I am going to have to sell the car in about 3 months. I was debating if it was worth putting them in the car, or if I should just sell the kit for $250 since I am only get a couple months use out of it. What would you guys do?!

Whats going bro,
your HID's as you said are real HID's or are they just Xenones ?
Hid's - entire system that balances it self on the road and no such thing as far as i know for '96 i30. Unless you have '00 and up. I would be interested in buying a set from you!
- Also, in my opinion if your going to sell your car no point of putting in them in and then taking them out.
-I would sell.

It is an H4 conversion kit for the cefiro headlamps that I have. It is made by McCulloch. http://www.mccullochhid.com/ I still can't decide what to do with it!! Let me know if you're interested in buying it.

Aren't those illegal if not installed with the incorrect reflector? HIDS have to use a more precise beam than halogens. The CEfiros you have are made for halogens and will blind oncoming traffic with HIDS. That will certainly get you noticed by many people on the road, such as cops...

I read it right off the mcculloch web site "The Gourmet Garage HID conversion system is not street legal for use on public roads in the United States."

as well as " Although all components of the kit is up to industry standard, the kit is DOT certified but not certified as a retrofit. Thus, it's not street legal for use on public roads in the US.
"

So install it at your own risk....

it all depends where you live and who cares about them.

About that issue of them being illegal, a friend of mine installed a set of racing xenon’s and they are fully illegal and his lights do blind people however in New York, NYPD doesn't pay much attention to stuff like that. They care more about moving violations.

They are NOT street legal. If their own website says they're not street legal, what makes you think they are? Go to the website for mccullochhid.com and look on the faq page. Tell me it doesn't say it once, but twice, that they are not street legal... They are only street legal as a OEM item, not as a retrofit. The beam pattern is very specific for HIDS, and rather different from halogens.

F&* them if the lights look good i say put them in. Unless your selling your car and you won't have it soon, then it's pointless.

That's got to be one of the stupidest things i've ever heard. If they're not legal, then they shouldn't be installed. Another thing, last time i checked, he didnt live in Brooklyn like you... I bet cops in Virginia do care. What you said is the equivalent of saying 'if coke feels good, then i say do it'.....

If its illegal, its illegal. If they blind someone, and they wreck...yeah what then.

Let us get something clear here, If there is anything stupid on this form it must be you! I said that I'm from New York for a reason wiseass. I know that in different states PD ( Police Deportment) are different. By the way, there is no need to get defensife about something as silly as this. You were the one encouraging him to do something illegal. It's people with wreckless disregard that make driving on the street a nuisance.

It's also nice to be called 'stupid' by someone who can't spell...

And what form are you talking about? Or did you mean 'forum'?

'Police Deportment'? Missing your greencard?

Yeah, get your stuff straight before you open your mouth, ok?

Well, actually, I do a lot of driving at night when there are hardly any cars on the road, and one of the reasons I bought them was for safety. I am very familiar with the reflector issue and "blinding" oncoming traffic, and I have seen quite a few aftermarket HID kits, and dont buy the hype. BTW, just as a reminder.....I started this thread to get some advice not so two people could bicker! There also isn't any use in picking on someone's spelling or grammar, that never solved nothing. Anyhow thanks for the advice guys!
