Stealing Headlights

Last week my 03 maxima lights were stolen. When I was at the body shop, they told me thats the new craze. I was wondering if they are also stealing the I35's headlights, if not, I would like to trade my Max for the I35. Do you guys know if the I35 lights are being stolen as well ???

Thanks in advance

DANNY

I've never heard of our headlights being stolen, and I don't think they ever will (very unlikely) for several reasons:

-The I30s had HID as an option, not standard. Granted, I35s are standard, but they look similar to I30s. Going further, the halogen headlights and HID headlights on our cars look virtually identical (Not so with the 2k/2k1 halogen headlights on the maxima)
-I think Kalpesh said when he took out his headlights that there was a bolt going through the underside of the bumper into the housing. This would make them difficult (at least, moreso) to remove using the conventional pry and run method.
-Last but not least, our cars are fairly rare so many thieves won't know what our cars are and what they're equipped with.

No problem. I think you'll be happy with the I35 so long as you're not wanting a manual transmission. Other than that, the deals should be good since I think this is the last year for the I35, and they still have '03s on the lots, and they're not selling as well as they used to.

BTW - good eye, I am on NICO. I'll look for ya there!

the I30 headlights are a pain to remove. i just finished installing new headlights and it seems to have 2 bolts on top and 1 bolton the bottom. i had to go underneath the bumper to reach the bottom bolt. i dont know about the maximas but removing I30 are hard.

it's ghetto easy on 4th gen Maximas to remove stock headlights... but then again, who would want to steal those anyway

Anything's possible given enough time and money. I imagine once someone paves the way by swapping a 6 speed into an auto VQ35 max it'll become very apparent as to how difficult it would be to do in an I35. The cars are virtually identical.

i just can't see anyone trying to steal headlights. just don't understand how stealing Maxima/I30 headlights is the new craze going on these days. the time and risk of stealing headlights are just not worth. they might as well just steal the whole car, chop it up and sell the parts....
guess we gotta keep an eyes on our cars' headlights now, make sure no one steals them

this problem is particularly out of control in the North East..

NYC especially

Most of the 2002/03 maxes on the road have had their HID headlights stolen, i know a few people who have had them stolen 2-3 and even 4 times! the guy finally came to his senses and got some 01 headlights and stuck them in there, they left a slight gap with the bumper though.. a lot of people have opted for this option considering replacement HID headlights are like 800$ a piece at the Dealer.

anyways,
with the 02/03 maxes all you need to do is pry them up from the corner/between the hood and fender or even from the top of the headlight and they pop right out...

Nisan is part to blame in my eyes because they made it so damn easy to take such an important component that they could have done something about and prevent this ****.
They showed a theif do this on the news, 20 seconds per headlight and they are gone. that's all it takes.

i never heard of I30s getting theirs robbed

Someone Stole the Stereo out of my 91 SAAB 9000 about a week ago (So I bought an I30), But I cant beleive that some little punk would steal some headlights!

Is damage done to the body of the car when they pry them out? That would P**s me off.

Well anyway, I was looking at the pic of the I35 in this post and had a question.

Are those headlights black instead of silver chrome? Dont worry, I promise I wont steal them. I am looking into some black headlights for my I30 and was wondering if those were stock (and would fit a 2000 I30).

Thanks,

Trey

The I30t HID headlights are black; the I35 headlights are kind of a dark/black chrome.
