Engine swap?

I was wondering, pure out of curiosity....

The VQ35DE engine is just an overbored VQ30DE... So is it correct to asume that the VQ35 is a direct drop in for the 1996 Infiniti I30?

When the 2k models came out, I was talking to the dealer about them in comparison to the 94-99 models and the guy said you can actually buy the added stuff that gave the 2k models the extra power and fit it in the older ones. I'm not sure how accurate this is though.

If thats the case, why not simply BORE OUT THE VQ30DE??? See this is one thing I will never understand. People are so quick to try and front their fast and furious knowledge of crap. The VQ35 is bored and running larger\ lighter pistons and cams. It would make sense (and be economical) to just simply have a VQ30 bored out to a 3.5 displacement and buy some titanium cams and pistons. (And be sure to polish it.) This eliminates what the guy selling his 2k2 hybrid is going through now. Thats why he is selling it. Because it was a bad ideal to start. He should have know better than that if he truely is a mechanic.

I doubt you can bore out the 3.0 to 3.5, maybe 3.3.
