Replacing Stock BOSE Deck

Ok, I want to replace the tock Bose deck on my 2000 I30t. I have been told so many different things I do not know what to believe. First I was told the Dash kit for A 2000 Maxima would not fit my cat, then I went on Autotoyz.com and they have one that they say will fit. Then I have been told that I cannot just replace the deck due to the fact that the whole system is factory amplified. They say I will have to replace all speakers. It this true, I would rather just replace the deck and add a amp for my subs, be done with it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! Also and deck suggestions would be great I want one that will look good with my int. (black Leather, some wood, and some brushed metal)

Welcome to the Org.

BOSE, for some reason likes to do things differently. They have a wierd amount of impedance (Ohms) and their decks dont have the standard RCA jacks. I was told that you can hook up subs to the stock deck but you have to use some conector that has the sound quality of RF modulation.

You cant just replace the speakers because of the amount of impedance.

Pretty much what I got from the auto sound "expert" was that if I wanted to do it right, I would have to replace evrything. I dont know if that was just an attempt at getting me to drop $3000 all at once, but what he was saying did make SOME sense to me.

I know there are some people on the org that have just hooked up amps and subs to the stcok HU. So hopefully we will hear something from them.

* Thanks for the insite, but if I hookes un a amp with ... say a High end conveter I am afraid it would sound like S***. I don't know if I am right or not and one who has it done please let me know.

hey, i have some information. all that is true let me reidderate. bose runs all of their speakers on 1ohm, so they are very efficient, but the downside is, there arent any other speakers that bose makes that you can just buy really, and at that you would need a new hu, and the hu isnt compatible with any other speakers that arent 1ohm. Now depending if you're a sound freak or not, you can go several ways. one is to keep yout stock system, or the other is total change it. now it wouldnt cost 3k for a new system, if you pay that you are insane. the internet is your friend, buy all your speakers off the net and your hu, you'll get it at a fraction of the price. is it worth upgrading is another question. well like i said depending on what you wanna do will make you change. i have subwoofers in my car now, and my factory system to me sounds terrible. bose doesnt have good highs. no highs no lows you know its bose. its it hard to install the system, should be too hard. im not familar with the speaker setup in your car right now how many speakers it is, but you can get away with another system that can go louder, and so as clean or cleaner than your stock system. of course you would have to buy a new hu and external amps, dont run it off the HU, so you can save money by bying a cheaper HU and just using it to only send signals, and not to power anything. not also i have heard of kits to make aftermarket headunits fit in your car. im not sure about that, but you may want to look it up.

hope this all helped.

you can change just the deck. you need an adapter such as the pac audio oem2 though. check pacaudio.com; you can add a sub to the original deck using the same adapter wired differently.

Its not going to sounds like something you would appreciate. Like Crystalclear mentioned, Bose has no highs and no lows. Their focus is the nice midrange.(mid bass and mid saprano.) Its pretty pathetic. Heres what you would want to do, replace everything. Bose makes their systems deliberately on 1 ohm impedance to use a little charge off the accessory line from the alternator as possible. (I think its less than 25 amps required) but with our cars theres enough juice available to actually run a 500 watt system without the other loads on the car flinching (lights, gauges, etc. dimming when bass notes hit.) In amps this should be 110 at the most.

But enough with the technical mambo jambo. Bottom line is just replace your H.U., search for a bracket and dash kit (there are several examples of this in the stereo section on these boards.), add external amps, run better quality wiring (for the speakers and amps) replace your speakers, and call it a day. You will be glad that you did this later.

P.S. if you use the steering wheel controls there is an adapter available that allows you to program your steering wheel controls to the h.u.

Ok, i have a 2000 i30 and I replaced my headunit twice. Let me tell you this, this first time it was all good, EXCEPT that it good horrible engine feedback. (that was a crazzy headunit) Here's waht you have to do, just go buy a nice headunit, i have a dehp6500 www.cardomain.com/id/2000i30cg and then I got the 2000 maxima dash kit..it doesnt fit perfect, but i am having it all custom molded anyways, so i dont care...it sounds beautiful now, although I am considering redoing the speakers. I have a 12" solobaric kicker, and a 800 watt amp, and there is no light flickering ... just try that out

thats one thing about thee cars thats good, the large alternators. and if ur problem still persists with light dimming and things like that, well my car has a 90 amp the newer one have a 120 amp, so my car u can upgrade to a 120 amp alt, otherwise u need a custom one and bracket. i think the bose systems in thre infinits are crappy compared to the one in my mothers car, ours is ****. her bose system goes soo nice. i had a 2003 i30t as a rental and the bose system still wasnt as good IMO
