I bought 600, 1000, and 1500 sandpaper and polishing compound to turn my headlights from yellow to clear =) Is there any guide or general advice you have for taking the lights out? I only looked at it briefly, and in the dark last night, so all I saw was that the passenger side had a little plastic shield with two plastic screws holding i on around the light bulb. What do I need to do to get the whole light how so I can sand it? Thanks.

 

i tried taking out my headlights. its a real ***** to do with my 96 i30. all of the screws are easy to get out except for that one screw that is facing the fender on both headlights. there is less than an inch of clearance between the screw and the fender. i gave up on it for now. i might come back to it later and try to figure something out.

 

It's been so long since I took mine out that I can't remeber exactly how to do it. I do know that it is a simple and very obvious which bolts need to be removed. There is one that is kinda hard to get to, but besides that it is very straight forward.

Good luck on getting the headlights to clean up. I have tried everything and nothing works. It's just the way they are. They are going to look like that no matter what you do to them

 

Man, takin the head lights aint that bad... once you remove the screw that hold the corner light in remove the corner light.... There are two screws on the side of the headlight... remove those (10mm socket) There are two more screws on the inside close to the radiator... you cant see the top one unless you stick your head under the hood...

 

My 96 I30 light have become that faded yellow as well and I found some stuff on line that "says" it ill bring them back to clear. i have never tried it, but I will search the web right now and post the link on here for you to check out. If you try it, please post on here and let us know.

Also, I went out the othere day and bought som plastic cleaner. I think it was made by Mothers, but I will check tonight and get back to you tomorrow. It works best for foggy lights, scratched, lights, but it cleaned them up pretty well. I will be back in a few with the link to that yellow light cleaner stuff.

is this yellow discoloration on the inside of the headlight... or the outside? i always thought it was on the outside and didn't care much for cleaning it, but if it's outside, i want to remove the plaque so my lights have a nice bright smile.

 

Yellowing/Discoloration
Yellowing occurs with a combination of extended nighttime driving, acid rain, and possibly condensation. It mostly occurs on the inside of the lens but can also be found on the outside. The hard plastic used for the lens is susceptible to high heat, and yellowing is a side effect of that.

I tried the stuff from mdwholesale.com it was simple to do, no need to remove the headlights and it worked pretty well. I'll post some pics of before and after.. the cefiros still look better, but for 20 bucks this worked well.
