Havent seen anyone talk about this on here yet?

I was just curious if anyone else (other than myself) has painted their amber tail lights red?

I haven't seen anyone else talk about this and was just curious. I acually took the tail lights off the car, taped up all but the amber lense, and use transparent red modeling paint and a clear coat paint to turn the amber lense red. I think it looks good red. (keep in mind that I did this before knowing how to clear them which I would have probably done instead) But I do like how the red looks.

If anyone needs to know or wants to know how to do this, it's very simple and a very inexpensive way to change the look of your tail lights.

Alright, just wanted to ask. Thanks again and have a great day!

The 95-96 4th Gen maxima guys have been doing this for about a year. It looks better than amber, but it is not nearly as cool as cleared tails.

Yeah, I agree. I wish I knew about clearing lights before I painted them. Does anyone know of a product that will take paint off plastic EASILY and wont harm the plastic? If so, please let me know so I can remove the red paint and clear them instead.

Thanks!

They make paint stripper that is safe for plastic. Go to wal-mart or any auto parts store and read the labels.

Go make a cardomain page. When you have done that, post again and we can walk you through it.

www.cardomain.com, or you can follow the link in my homepage icon below.

I painted my rear turn signals red back in November. I didn't use clear coat so I did them again in February and they have held up well. Personally, on my color I30 (pebble beige), I don't think the effort of clearing them is worth the difference between the clear and the red in my own opinion. When I painted them the second time, I used nail polish remover and a straight edge to remove most of the fading red paint.

Also, I left the lights on the car and just used a lot of tape to cover the rest of the car. I got some overspray but the nail polish remover took it right off.

Here is my Cardomain site with a couple of pics of it.. I'll put more up in a day or two if anyone wants me to, but I need batteries for my digicam :-P http://members.cardomain.com/shiftinfiniti
