Bass vs. Rearview

So, I've come to love just about everything about my 96 I30, but one thing keeps buggin me, my rearview mirror. I can't listen to any song with a descent about of bass, or it will begin to shake and i'll be looking at my rear seat armrest. I kno that i can't be the only one this is happenin too, any solution other than to turn down the subs??? Lookin at my back seat is gettin old.

I have the same problem!!! This does suck. I have been starring at my back seat for a while now and trying to adjust to using JUST my side mirrors. What a pain!

Anyway, I have not come up with a solution yet, although I was thinkin about putting a dab of glue on the back of the mirror to hold it in place. The only problem I can think of with this is that if you ever need to adjust it or someone else is driving your car and needs to adjust it, you can't.

If you think of a solution please let me know and I will do the same.

UGH!!!!

Find something nice and sticky to put all over the pivot point.? Might be worth a try.

Youve probably checked, but is there a way to tighten the housing around the pivot point?

Yeah there is, and it's supposedly fairly easy. It's been posted before, but I can't find it. Hopefully someone will re-inform us all.

I think a while back I read about someone putting a small square of Dynamat somewhere on the rear view... I don't know the specifics of that (ie where the Dynamat would go) or if it even works, but it might be worth looking into.

I think it was something about an adjuster. There should be a removable plastic piece on the front of the mirror and then a nut or something to tighten. I haven't done it but let me know if that's it...

Dynamat

Dynamat on the rearview doesn't work, or at least it didn't work for me. I saw no difference in how quickly i was looking at my arm rest. I put a strip across the back of the mirror. I'm gonna try and see if i can find the nut to adjust the tightness, i'll let yall kno what happens

I dont think Dynamat would do too much when just stuck on the back of the mirror. Maybe if you put some on the pivot mechanism to gum it up a bit.

I would first try to tighten it up with what is there from the factory.

LOL I think Pizatt was talking about dynomatting the whole car as a solution everyone. LOL In any case Pizatt, i have the same problem with my base and my mirror. My car is solid as a rock in all other areas (no ratteling out of the trunk or doors or anything). The only problem is I look at my back seat while I grove to the music. NOW, if there were a cute girl back there in a bikini laying across the seat, then I would not mind, but it is usually just an empty seat I'm looking at.

We need to find out more about this nut on the mirror and how to tighten it guys.

Bye!

I wasnt talkin about Dynomating the mirror, the car... that would dampen some of the vibration... Honestly after dynomating the car, there is not much you can do to stop the vibrations from shakin the mirror....

Does the 96 have the auto dimming mirror, with a gap between the plastic housing the mirror is connected to and the windshield?

If so, just get a piece of rubber about as thick as the gap and wedge it in there. Now you can listen to music and see traffic behind you.

I had this identical problem after I got my sub. To correct it, I took the plastic/rubber circle piece in the back of the mirror out. There's a screw, I think a flat head. Just tighten that and you'll be good to go. I still have the problem of the mirror rattling though, however, that might actually be my broadway mirror, I'll check next time.
