Hello,

would it be possible to throw a 6 speed tranny from a 2k+ maxima in my 96 A32?

Since the VQ35DE is based VQ30DE I thought maybe the tranny is innerchangable.

Anybody done a 6 spd swap before on their A32?

I looked into this myself about a month ago. My logic was that since a 5 speed 00-01 can fit into a 4th gen, one would have reason to believe that a 6 speed, which has the same bell housing as the 00-01 5 speed, could also fit into a 4th gen. Later, I discovered that there was a member of the maxima forum that actually did it!! The only modifications were installing different CV axles and relocating the wheel speed sensor! I can't remember the guys name but, he had pictures of it!!

So I guess it could be done and it would be damn sweet!!

 

So let's find who did this already!

actually, I asked this too a while ago, seems someone did put in a 6th speed in a 4th gen, and there are a couple of members who are putting in a 2k2 engine and 6 speed in a 4th gen

 

The current engine has enough potential for me, I have the MEVI so I don't care to much about a 2k2 with VI. If I wanted more power I would go with a turbo, money better spend IMO. However the 6 speeds gearbox always fascinated me, and IMO a V6 just has to have a 6 speed, it's the ultimate!

Hope to find more info 'bout this tranny swap. And the main reason for wanting to swap the tranny is that my current tranny makes some weird graining noise under heavy acceleration. A while ago I read the cause of this sound, tranny damage due to a construction error, so I thought let's go with a newer tranny that doesn't have this stinking problem, and while I'm at it, why not just throw in a 6 speed? :P
