Opinions on manual swap or supercharge.

Manual swap, youll never regret it. I wasnt expecting much from my swap, but its like night and day. Its soo fun and powerful. Totally worth it. My I30 was my 1st auto and last. Last 4 cars were stick. It is worth it. I bought my 20th AE new from dealer for $1900.

HAHA! did you even read the date on the OP? I30DS has had his car supercharged for a LOONNNGGG time. well over a year and a half.

2nd. there is a SECTION dedicated to Superchargers and Turbochargers, if you bothered to read you would have seen this.
3rd. there is a THREAD for newbies like yourself to post questions before you start posting.
4th. im letting you off easy this time since you probably did not follow any of the above mentioned suggestions.
enjoy your stay.

And converted to stick, IIRC he ended up using a brand new VLSD tranny as well, I used to always envy his car, now having owned a supercharged 4th gen I want so bad to boost my I30. Both stick, gotta have stick. I was driving a slushbox '01 that I turbo'd recently and was very disappointed in the failing auto tranny.

Well damn it, I'll bump this *****.
After 3 weeks of driving my S/C i30 the transmission has failed. 3rd and 4th slips and never really catches. If I drive, I have to keep it in 2 and gain enough speed for it to go into fourth where rpm is @ 5.5k at 50mph. I installed a cooler, mobile 1 synthetic and a transgo shift kit( not reprogramming). The shift kit actually caused more problems though. The car can't shift at WOT. It was a pain to pull off fast.
5 spd swaps are rare here in Cali though so it may be a while before I can drive my car again.

well the cost of the manual transmission is something you want to take on when your auto is on the way out. If it isnt drive it to death first.
if two i30s were for sale right now which would i buy? manual definitely. a manual nissan can live forever.

in every semi dead forum on the internet
there is some moron who lurks and tells new members not to post and to use search.
You miss the point moron. You post to see if anyone is alive right now, anyone to bounce an idea off.
A new member comes here and asks, is this forum active?
Well no theres low functioners here who miss the point of a forum, that is to post. Hey hello, I have the same car how are you? What advice do you personally have for me?
etc.

Why the hell is it so damn difficult to get a complete 5 speed swap here in cali? Do you have one for sale?
I can probably find 10 on this forum who are in NYC. WTF?

I honestly dont know. Id have to look at the production numbers. It was pretty easy to find one for a g20, but a g20 had way more mts made. there are almost no i30s made with a mt those are very rare there wont be one in a junkyard except in a blue moon.
Id like to do this someday, I feel like my car would almost be perfect if it was mt.
it makes no sense at all really its very expensive. It might literally be easier to rip out my interior and stereo and put it in a manual maxima from the used market someday. If the auto trans went out though.... its not a whole lot more. Its more and a lot more work but itd almost make sense then.

thats cool. Just remember that no newbie wastes your time blackhawk. YOU waste your time repeating something which is as common and old as message forums on the internet.

#65
why? and its not as expensive as you think, have you done this project?
as far as the work involved the hardest part is pulling the auto. faster that its pretty much cake. just drill the firewall bolt a few things up and done.

no i havent done this project.
Just looking into it and doing research.
My i30 is very recent to me I have done numerous small repairs to it but nothing major.
Ive replaced a transmission in a fwd car though a mazda protege. Its not something Id be afraid of, but i know its major.
The hardest part of that was DEFINITELY putting it back on. Theres that project in addition to all the pedals and interior bits, and i think rewiring something to make the ecu not miss the at.
Overall seems like a 9 on the major project scale.

if you break up the project in stages,
4 hours to do the pedals
8 hours to remove the auto
3 hours to install the MT
2 hours for wiring
of course your time may vary, but this is just a rough idea of how you can do the project timely, and still be careful not to miss anything.
#69
ive done at least 3 already, and i did mine alone, took about 2 days. putting the MT on is actually fairly simple. the wiring is really only 2-4 wires and as for the ecu thing. you can run a MT with a auto ECU you'll just have a bunch of codes but the driving will not be affected.

you describe running the auto ecu with codes
Arent there resistors to put in the ecu for this project? Did someone do that?
the at plug has I believe 4 inputs.
I couldnt run the thing with codes, youd never be able to sell the car again....

once you get the swap done, you just need to get a 5spd ecu to get rid of the codes the wiring is the easiest part, did you read the how to on the swap?
