In all my cars, i use nothingless than Mobil 1 synthetic and non synthetic $$$ but my cars have love me since. Soon as I bought my I35, i changed the oil to Mobil 1 so the car could get used to it. Let's see form my maxima-to-pathfinder-to-acura cl type S-to-QX4-to-G20t-to-I35 yep, all of my cars always was flushed and filled with mobile 1.Originally Posted by cefiro8701

Yeah, but isn't there a write-up in the 4th Gen Forum about how it's not good to flush your system and use synthetic until you hit about 90k miles, then it's REALLY good. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I believe that it was on Syntheic oils, but not 100% sure. If it is though, then I feel you made a mistake doing that to your I35 unless it has over 90k miles, which I doubt.
Can someone tell me how this makes any sense?

I never heard of that. I REALLY never heard of that. Maybe for older cars, not with the new technology that is out on newer cars. I have never had a problem with synthetic. I used to go to my race shop to get it changed and they were the ones who recommended it. I also used to go to the dealer and have them change it, and I REQUESTED only mobil 1, which made my bill alot steeper. Neither my service advisor nor my race shop mechanic said anything about any of my cars on using mobile 1 oil. Anyway, that's just my preference, nobody else has to use mobile one. I remember on my acura-cl.com website, alot of people were using mobile one, I have already been a longtime customer. Originally Posted by Max Mutes

Why not Pennzoil ?!? There is nothin against it written in the stickies in Fluids section on Pennzoil, but they did say against Valvoline (don't remember if it's against synthetic valvoline though!)
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=227996
Says "Stay away from any Valvoline ..." but it does add the phrase "if going over 3000 miles" But I am not sure what that sub-par analysis results mean and are!

Well, I would not drive any oil past 3000 miles. I don't care what brand, and I don't care what type (e.g. regular or synthetic).Originally Posted by flthere

This guy actually recommends Penzoil which make no sense because it contians Parafin, which is a wax like substance. Look inside the vavle cover of the engine (remove oil cap). On vehicles that have used a Parafin based oil ( or have run nonparafin oil for exesive periods of time), the entire area has masive oil deposit build up. NOT GOOD!
I think I will choose to NOT heed his advice and stick with my Valvoline...

Just did an oil change today....
I live in Georgia so oil weight really never needs to be anything more than a 10W-30. I have 115,000 miles on my car so I use Mobile 1 High Mileage Synthetic Blend....hope that helps.

Well that is all fine and good, but those articles were sponsored/ written by Pennzoil. They are by no means nonbiased. What they say could be right, and all of this parafin, wax, sludge talk is myth. Or they could be wrong, and the various comments that I have heard about Pennzoil through out the years by various inviduals are correct. I am NOT one to have enough independent knowledge or facts to decrypt this mystery, so I have made the descision to STAY AWAY from Pennzoil just to be on the safe side.

Maybe it depands how long you have used it for and how often it was changed. First, remove your oil cap, and look in there with a flashlight. If the metal has a caked on DARK brown surface or a sludge substance all over everything, then you are in bad water. If not, then you are good. Originally Posted by cefiro8701

If you do have it, switch oil, buy engine flush from your parts store and use that for about the next four or five oil changes (you usually put it into the dirty oil and run the engine for 15-20 min. before oil change). Also, the more you change your oil, the more that stuff will be eroded away by the fresh oil (oil contains detergent). If it is really bad, start changing your oil every 2000 miles.
When I got my 92 Acura Vigor, the previous owner had followed the Honda recommended oil change schedule of 7500 miles w/ new filter every other change (every 15000 miles!!!) for about 80000 miles. I had that burned oil residue all over. After about ten 2000 mile oil changes with engine flush, i got rid of it.
hhmmm....i see nothing on my oil cap and i just had a change like four days ago...should i rechange it?and if it does cause problems why does parafin even exist in motor oil?any benefits.

It is not going to be on your oil cap (sometimes in extreme cases though). You have to look inside the case. If you just changed your oil, don't bother with it. Just stop using pennzoil in the future. It would take 50000 miles worth of oil changes before one could tell the difference between a car that used Pennzoil vs a car that used something else.Originally Posted by cefiro8701

As far as to why Pennzoil uses parafin, I have no idea.
I thought i was the only fanatic.
