Burning smell after hard driving?!?!?!

When I have drivin my I30 to the max, I smell this burning smell when I get out of the car, it aint the clutch, cause when I drive hard I only drop the clutch and don't let it slip, I don't think it's the tires either, cause I don't spin 'em (kinda hard to spin them when you have VLSD, or you have to be such a morron to really wanting to spin 'em). Do I have to be worried? The engine had ran somewhat over 160 k miles

mine does the same i think its a combination of the heated rubber of your tires, and just the engine being worked, i mean there is combustion, i wouldnt really worry too much, but check your car out make sure everything is in good condition

The tires...especially if new...can have a "burning" type of smell. Are you sure it's not your brakes that you're smelling? I hit the dragon over the weekend (www.tailofthedragon.com) and the couple times I stopped I could smell my brakes.

I could easily be your clutch. It can be slightly slipping even when engaged.

everything tends to have a unique smell when i burns.....the brakes pads will produce a certain smell, coolant(due to a leak) has a very unique smell when it burns, try and locate where the smell is coming from and go from there

Even when it is warmed up I can hear a whining noise, and it comes from the left side on the enginebay, so I gues it's one of the belts that causes it. Yesterday someone in a Sunny GTI asked me if I had a supercharger, I told him "No, but I DO have airconditioning " lol...

The burning smell, I can't really locate it from one particular system, but it's the strongest when I open the hood.

It could also be your exhaust. In my g20t, when i drive really hard, and do alot of WOTs the exhaust gives off this weird smell. Kinda like a light skunk smell. The other day, i was messing around with this camaro ss on the back roads and when i got a chance to finally stop, the exhaust fumes were terrible.

My car does not smell like a skunk, it smells like when you light a match and blow it out before the wooden stick has really burned.

That's a "sulfur" smell. Catalytic converter probably needs replaced.

God damn it... well, think I'll weld myself a test pipe then... a lot cheaper, or I'll go with a high flow catalytic converter.. there goes the money reserved for a Y-pipe and headers :'( fu(k....
