Bad hub bearing?

I have the feeling that my drivers side rear wheel hub bearing is failing due to a low pitch hum/growling emitted from that area. The noise gets louder the faster the car moves.
Would proper diagnosis be to lift the rear and feel for drag while turning the wheel?
The whole assmebly is held on by the wheel bearing lock nut. This requires 255lb of torque to remove, correct?
TIA

to make sure this is what you do...
jack the car up...jiggle the tire and if you feel excessive play then your wheel bearings are screwed...i just learned this last week in my auto class....

HI

It is you hub that is bad, I had the same problem. I had to replace the whole hub! You have to just use the correct socket, I believe it is a 22-24mm socket! It is really easy to replace, like 20-30min max. Make sure the new hub is good, I when through 2 bad hubs.
