Salvage I35 worth it or not

hey wats up ppl

i am thinking about buying a 2003 infiniti i35 with 4800 miles and a salvage history on it. the salvage history is due to theft. the front bumper the headlights and various computers(airbags computer etc) were stolen. the person is asking $17000. the trade in value is $21 something
i have 2 questions

1. is this a good buy. btw there is no navigation in the car

2. if i decide to sell it later on in the future will i have a problem selling it.

you can get an '01 that's fully functional and no salvage title for that amount of $$$ so my advise is not to buy that. Yes it will be hard to sell since everyone uses CarFax nowadays.

Definitely not worth it. You can get an I35 with a clean title from carmax for $19k, and they're not always the cheapest either.

Price out what you need to spend for new airbags, computer, install. Then you will know instantly that this is a crappy deal.

Really? I do 4800 miles in 4-5 months easy.

deewanapaki, usually salvage titles are good for parts and track use and they are hard to sell. Dont do it.

oh ok

just to clear up some misunderstandings. its 17 after its all fixed. and its 4800 miles not 48k practically brand new. i saw the window sticker for 32 on the car so i figured after tax it would be like 35 or 36. just wanted to see if its a good deal cuz the way i looked at it was i m getting a slightly used car for half the price but with salvage history.

thx for the comments. really appreciated

Sorry my bad! I misread that. 4800 is extremely low for that age. That changes everything.

changes things ... true.. but.. however.. resale is gonna be .. due to lack of better word "POOPY" on it..

but if u plan to drive it to the very end.. then okay.. i guess u can go for it..

it had no engine parts missing rite..?

hmm also at the same time.. rare for such a new car to get stolen.. normally its liek atleast 2 years before people start stealing. them.. oh well yea.. so the porb is only ..

RESALE VALUE....

but if u dont care about it.. then thats not bad at all.. if with fixing and all u get it for 17 its pretty nice...

and before i stated get a max.. DONT.. hehe the I rules.. hehe.. okay let me shut up before the million other maxers here kick my @$&...

"i saw the window sticker for 32 on the car"
Well you have to realize that you can get a 2004 brand new in the $26K - $27K price range (invoice - $2000 Dealer cash). So you're paying $9K-$10K less for an older I35 that comes with a salvage title. Not worth it IMO. Would your warranty (regarding electronics) still be good since computers were stolen off of the car? If you are really interested in the car, I'd have an Infiniti Dealer give it a thorough inspection. I'd also have them tell me what the warranty will still cover. Then I'd offer the seller something more like $14K -$15K if you plan to drive it for 7 years or so; as others have said - it will have virtually no resale value.

Yep - I was just in the market and did a lot of comparison shopping. You can get a solid 2001 for that price. Ignore the old retail sticker, do some comparison. Get it checked out by a dealer. If it's in good shape, it's worth $14k MAX - remember, no resale value.

If you're never going to sell it (outside of the family or someone you can convince that there's nothing wrong with it), it's not bad - but the salvage title is just a killer for any other situation.

I've never driven a salvage title vehicle, but you may have issues with insurance as well - just something to look into in case you haven't.

Good luck!

Well, first off, it won't be a salvage title it will be a rebuilt title that you will have just to clear it up. You can't register a salvage car the title needs to be rebuilt to register it.

Second the insurance will be the same as a non salvage car, no different in what you pay and no different if you total the car you get full value for it. I know this because I have had salvage cars in the past and still do to this day. The insurance companies don't care about the title all they care is monthly payment that you make to them. Salvage title means nothing to them, because if you pay the same amount on a premium as a clean title car you are entitled to what a person would get with a clean title car, and that is the law. I had a car that I had bought for $8000 with a rebuilt title, 6 months a friend driving the car totaled it. I got a $12000 payout, why because I was making normal premium payments. There are no worries about that.

Last regarding resale, of course there are the people that won't give you top dollar for the car but also remember that you didn't pay top dollar for it to begin with ( at least I hope you didn't ). You should look up the value of the car and prob. deduct a couple thousand off that price that should be your price, trust me none of that half value bull, because you'll never find that. Also there are people out there that don't care about the title they might drive the car fall in love with it and buy it. There are ALOT of rebuild titles out there some of them people don't even know about. So I really won't worry too much about the title brand of the car. The cars only has 4800 miles on it, that is barely even broken in, $17k isn't too bad maybe knock it down to $16 or $16.5 and it should not even be that bad.

Also the rebuilt title should not void your warranty, the only title that does void your warranty is the flood title.

oh ok

but the title is clean it just has an S on it stating it has salvage history. idk.
i was thinking about the 00 or the 01 i30 but the 02 on have the 3.5L 255 hp engine. the 01s can be around 17K but with more then 40k miles on them this has less then five thousand miles (the number confuses ppl hopefully the words will clear it up). i m still debating. idk what to do

Well I got my 01 I30 for only $8,500 with the parts that needed to be replaced. Fixed it with my dad, and with only 15,000 miles on it. Now I can porbably sell it for 13-14 thousand.

smart

wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole... for what its worth. you can get a clean used one for a decent price, why would you risk it? This car's value is seriously worth half of a clean one.... you'll have a hell of a time trying to sell it....

Have you checked with Infiniti to see if the car is still under its manufacturer's warranty? I have a feeling that since its a salvage, the warranty would be void on ANY issue.....
