Who to trust to change the trans fluid?

I want to have the Trans Fluid changed in my 2K I30.

Should I take it to Jiffy Lube, or the dealer, private shop? Does it matter? with they mess something up? Who can I trust?

I won't let jiffy boob check my tire pressure. This link will tell you how or a reputable shop will do and if you have leftover cash from christmas go to the dealer.

if you are just wanting to do a drain and fill then do it yourself. If you want it flushed then take it to a shop who has the proper equipment

Sorry if I sound out dated or lazy, but does it have a drain plug or do you have to pull the whole pan like in the old days?

Is there a filter to change that you have to pull the pan to access?

I would actually prefer to do it myself but feel that I don't have the equipment. Whenever I take my vehicle in for service, it always comes back with dissapointment, whether it is new scratches in the fender, crappy workmanship, etc. No one cares anymore.

Tell me how easy it is to do it myself. Thanks!!!!!

so that is another reason to do it yourself then. there is a drain plug just like on the engine. some people here on the org pull the pan off to fully drain all the oil(when actually you wont be able to drain all of it cause alot of it is in the torque convertor). there is however a net inside that catches debrie and small particles but to get to taht you have to remove the pan and it is in place with alot of bolts.

i would just unscrew the bolt, drain it and then refill it. then drive the car so the new oil mixes with the old oil and then drain and refill it again.

remember, the tranny itself takes 9 quarts of ATF Dexon3/Mercon. When you just drain and refill, you just need 5 quarts of oil.

If you want to flush your tranny make sure you use the proper tranny fluid.
Some shops might say that using Dexron III is good but I would not go that route. Go to the dealer ( Inifinti or Nissan) and asked them for 10 quarts od Nissan-matic D tranny fluid. The tranny and torque converter only take about 8.9 quarts but keep the last one in the trunk for just in case situations. I did mine at my job and it only took 10 minutes and I really felt the diference in the shift quailty.

i dont agree with that satement at all. if you look at the sefice manual for the maxima refill capacities, it says use dexron3/mercon. plus he is not going to be able to remove all the oil in the troque convertor. he is only going to be able to drain the oil in the oil pan. that is why i said above you are going to have to do it again after you drive for a while.

Yes you are right some service manuals will say to use dexronIII but in my service manual (Inifinti) it clearly states to use Nissan-matic D tranny fluid. Trust me I work at a repair shop and would not post something that i did not do research on. In my opinion if wannna use dexron III save it for your power steering. Second I would go with the flush instead of the half now, half later method. If he has not change his fluid for awhile all you are doing is placing new fluid with old crap. Not a good idea

that is why i said he will have to replace the fluid again after he drives around with it. he will mix the new with the old and drain it again and put new fluid in. i am also am a mechanic and i know what i am talking about. its like saying for motor oil, he needs to purchase nissan motor oil only. plush he said he wants to do it himself so how will he do a flush at his house?

The solution to pollution is dillution. Are there flush kits available for the home guru?

L.I. I30T dude,

What's wrong with synthetic? I thought synthetic is always better.

Well if he wants to do it himself then I guess he can go with half now, half later. Personally it is much easier just to have it flushed and forget about it for the next 30,000 miles. As for the tranny fluid I suggest that dude should use the Nissan-matic D fliud. With electronic trannies and friction modifiers or inhibtors I would just stay with the stuff that came from the factory. As for purchasing nissan only motor oil ... there is no such thing. But I respect your quote in trying to help this dude out.

Do not get me wrong synthetic is good, just not in trannies. In my experience I would not do it. As for the home flush kits I have not seen any. To do a flush you have to replace fluid as it being taken out at the same time. To my knowledge only a flush machine can do that.
