It's normal as far as I know. Pretty much every car does it I think, I know that my car and all of my friends with Maximas have mentioned it to me, where they notice the car seems to be running loud when the fan is on high. It's just the heating or cooling fans at work.

Maybe someone can disprove this though, in which case I better have my car and all my friends' cars checked out, lol.

A couple years back, my blower fan got really really loud, so I took the glove box out and opened up the blower, and found leaves in there. They were hitting the blades of the fan, and made a GOD awful amount of racket. I still do not know how they got in there, but after cleaning them out my blower has been silky smooth and quiet. No leaves have returned.

Is pretty easy to remove the blower and see what's making the noise? Anyone have pictures for a 2000 model? Thanks.

my 5th gen blower moter does the same thing, excepte it is loud as hell. the motor is going bad, the sleeve bearing inside it is shot. I'm looking to get a replacement from a junkyeard soon. quite few ppl have had this on 5.5 gens.

its an easy fix, its located just behind the glove box

were you taking it back to, or did you mean bad? I was wondering if we can just spray some WD40 or something....instead of changing out the entire blower assembly. I've been hearing it for some time, just recently it started to get louder and louder to the point where it was pretty annoying.

Chucky.

sorry meant to say bad, i tried the wd40 route, and it worked great for about 2 days. so rather then ripping the hwole thing out again ( even though its not that hard) I'm just gonna replace it wiht a junkyard piece

Kevin,

Thanks for the info, post some pics if you get a chance. How easy was it to take out, I've replace the cabin filters before somewhat easy if I can remember where to pull from again.

Do you know how much a new blower costs vs a used one?

Thanks again....I'm looking for pics before pulling mine out so I know what I'm doing.

Chucky.

if you did the cabin filter its easy, its pretty much right next to it toward the passenger door side. its thre philisp screws. and the fan itself has a little vent tube on it. i'll see if i cna get some pics sometime, its been to cold to get at this project right now.

Kevin,

Did you replace the motor yet?

I took my apart, and found a metal washer to was between the motor and the fan blades that was loose.

I took everything apart, sprayed some WD40 and put everything back. It's been a week and quiet as day one.

Hopefully it will stay that long, but the trick might be to pull the fan blad apart from the motor and putting it back together again.

Chucky.

Thanks for the help.

Let's see, if I remember right. There is one nut that I removed from the top of the blower that prevents the fan from flying off, I removed that and then I had a hard time removing the fan (its very sharp), but it came straight out off the shaft, then there is the metal washer that looked like it was rubbing against the shaft and making a noise. At least that's what was causing the sound in my car.

Good luck...try it out, its free!

Chucky.

well i opened the motor up and drenched it with WD-40 on the motor shaft- it worked!!!
Had the car out int he cold for two days in a row before driving it, and that when the sound usually happens, and it didnt happen..

no more crazy sound. i recall that the first time i did this i didnt use wd-40, i just used some oil for lubricating eletric razo blades cuz i didnt have any thing else. lesson learned.
