I did this with my stock fogs.

On the passenger side of the engine bay there is a relay box.

Open it up.

You need to remove 3 relays to get to the 10mm bolts, take out the bolts.

On the pass side of the box there are 2 tabs that need to be undone, in the center there are 2 tabs, and on the other side there are 3 tabs.

Open the relay box so the wires are exposed.

Look at the top of the relay cover and find where the Fog Light relay is.

Find the blue wire coming from the fog light relay. Cut it about 3" from the relay. Tape off the end running to the car.

Now find the taillight relay, and locate the red/green wire with silver stripes.

Splice the blue wire coming from the relay into the red/green wire on the taillight relay.

If all went well you can turn on your fogs with the corner lights on. They will still turn off when the high beams are turned on.

Hope I helped.

Ive done it on my 2000 I30 and my buddies 2001. If you need any help or any other information just ask me. My way is a bit more of a pain, but it is a cleaner modification as everything is hidden in the relay box and you dont have to run any wire to the side marker or anything.

flyhye,

i got the whole hid setup with the balaster and ignitor and the 2 hid bulbs. I don't know if you just want to replace just the H3 fog bulbs.

nguyendot,

what exactly do you mean, i install H3 HID bulbs with balaster and ignitor and it's fine. Doesn't look like garbage to me but it does look bright. I will take a pic and post over the weekend.

The reflectors in the fogs were not intended for HID bulbs. They throw out the wrong light pattern, consequently blinding traffic, uneven dispersion, etc. H3 bulbs have a latitudinal (horizontal) filament of 5mm~ and D2S bulbs (what almost all HID retrofits are) have a longitudinal 'arc' of 4mm~. This gives off two distinctly different patterns, which the reflector is made for the former of the two. Don't believe me? Try this:

HID FAQ

H3 HID
A standard H3 bulb is 55W and is typically found in less critical applications like aux. lighting. H3 bulbs has been found in some low quality Asian aftermarked headlights. H3 has a lateral mount filament, and HID is only fore and aft, so a result of retrofit is that you will end up with garbage.

They used to have pics of a HID in H3 retrofit, and it looked horrible in terms of light pattern output. This is nothing like a 9006 > HID retrofit, for the reflectors are totally different.

Well 2000 Maximas' fogs ain't made for HID neither and Maxima Polak's Fogs look sick. There's no way your Fogs are gonna blind people, even if you aimed them up all the way. Only thing you shouldn't really do is put HID in our Stock Headlights, but that's it. Either retrofit projectors like HomerMAC or get a pair of Cefiros, preferrably OEM spec for a true HID beam pattern.

Anywhom, does anybody have any pics of our I30's with only Parking lights and Fogs on? I'm especially interested in how Lexus yellow colored fogs look with ONLY Parking Lights on...

Retrofitting a HID kit in a 9006 reflector is not DOT approved, e.g. NOT legal.

Just on ebay. If you didn't notice, a lot of places online had to remove the retrofits because they were illegal. In fact I have a catalog around here that had an insert that says 'until further notice, we will cease sales of HID retrofits'.
