Horrible Gas Mileage!
I have noticed that my I35 is getting horrible gas mileage. I just filled up yesterday and ran out over a quarter of a tank of gas already with only 88 miles of highway driving. Any tips on improving the gas mileage. My 95 Max got much better mileage that this '02.

Yes. Do not judge MPG on the basis of your gas gauge alone.
Here's what you need to do (excuse me if it sounds too elemental):
In the evening, fill your gas tank. Do not top if off. Whenever the pump lever shuts off, stop filling.
Next, reset your trip odometer to zero. If you do not have one, or cannot access it, then read the mileage off of your odometer and write it down on a piece of paper. Put the paper in your glove box.
Wait until your tank is halfway between the 3/4 mark and E, and then, at the SAME TIME OF DAY you filled your car, fill it up until the lever shuts off.
Either read the numbers off of your trip odometer, or take out the slip of paper with your previous odometer reading and write down the current odometer reading. Subtract the smaller number from the larger.
Look at the gas pump and write down the # of gallons of gas purchased.
Divide the mileage by the number of gallons.
That is the most accurate way of measuring your gas mileage.

Hmm That's odd, my last fill up I average 22 mpg (math calc., not the MPG in the car) And that is with 80% city driving.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that one and see what it comes out to be. It just seemed to use a good deal more than the Max did.

That's not horrible, however on the highway it should be better.

Yaeh I know. I mean I could certainly live with it. But it seemed like it should've been a little better. I wonder how much a Q45 would use if the I drank that much in one day.

True - I hadn't thought of that. I guess I'll have to get used to it.

The 1/4 marker on your guage does not represent 1/4 of a tank. Why? Because when your gauge hits "E", you are not completely empty. In fact you should have at least 2 gallons in reserve.
If you ever were to run it completely dry, you would see that true empty is quite a bit past the "E" mark.

It is definitely something to get a handle on because spending extra at the pump is not fun, especially at these prices.

Is it just a given that this model gets the mpg that it does? If it's common according to other guys that have the same sort of numbers then I won't worry about it. The truth is that it's used, so everything can't be perfect on it.

I would bet that every other make of car gets worse gas mileage driving in Tampa city driving! :-)

I don't think you're too far off from what I and other VQ35 drivers are getting.
I know my girlfriend's 4th gen uses less gas than mine does on the exact same trip (following each other at the same speed, etc.).

Yeah, I checked it today and it actually averaged out to be approx. 20mpg. That's not too bad considering that the bulk of the driving was city. On a seperate note I took it to the dealer today to fix the pulling to the right and they squared it away. So now it's straight and smooth. To be honest I like it more and more each time I drive it.

I'm not sure exactly. I took it on Saturday and got an alignment and wheel balance. They also rotated the tires. When I left it was still pulling. So today they rotated the tires again and it straightened out. So maybe it's the wear on the tires that were on the front. They said the specs were still right on the alignment. So the only thing I could think of is the tires.

Hopefully it picks up for you. That would be a lot of money saved.
