has anyone bought/installed the trunk lip spoiler on their 2k1 I30s from paradox?
is it as easy to install as it looks/sounds and does it make much of a difference in appearance?

 

I have it installed, it's easy, looks great, but beware, it won't stay on.

You have to curve it to fit the contour of the trunk, and the spoiler's resistance to being curved pulls it away from the adhesive and/or the trunk. So if you don't mind re-applying it every few months, get it. If not for the way it looks I would have trashed it by now. Each time it gets reapplied more paint chips off in the process etc.

 

i really do like the way it looks but don't know if it's worth the trouble.

what tape did you use?

 

Stuff that came with the spoiler...tape the body shop used...tape the body shop used...3M tape.

 

I thought to get it, but I didn't want to just "tape" it on

 

I used 3M exterior mounting tape and it held on my LudaLip and Stillen kit just fine. Try sanding the lip, clean everything with rubbing alcohol, and then reapply the tape. It should hold really well.

 

Done that, several times. I don't think you understand. The spoiler is fairly straight, and resists curvature. It has to be curved a fair degree to look right on the trunk. It will stick initially, but over time the spoiler's resistance to the curve pulls it away from the trunk and/or adhesive.

 

Did you heat up the lip spoiler with a heatgun or hairdryer a bit when you install it? That would help the flexibility of the lipspoiler to mount on the trunk properly.

The way I'd install the lip spoiler is to mount the lip spoiler on the trunk from the middle, and peel away the double sided tape towards the two side while another person heat up and press down the spoiler against the trunk.

I've used heat, and the sheer initial stickiness of the adhesive would make trying to mount the spoiler from the middle pretty difficult.

I think the problem lies in that it is made of ABS plastic, and doesn't seem as flexible/moldable/shape-able as something like say, urethane might be.

 

my cousins m3 convertible dindt come with spoiler.. (they said it would block the trunk mounted 3rd brake light... )

so he got it put on afterwards... anyhow... they heated up the spoiler it self.. then the adhesive whatever... any how afterwards they put it on.. and put some more heat on it.. and its staying pretty strong..

the guys said its all about the heat ...

however.. did u try using mabey jbweld.. type thing.. the second tiem someone stole my infiniti emblem... they crakced it and i still cant get the jbweld of it...

 

You're still fighting with that thing Meta? I finally just gave up on it.

I tried heating it up, bending to shape then cooling with cold water. I thought it was working well, but not too long down the road it started pulling away again.

Has the 3M tape worked pretty well or is it still popping off? I plan on trying to install again when I go back home for summer... After re-painting of course.

I love the looks of the thing, but it is such a PITA having to deal with this crap.

 

Yeah, I still have it, and it's still hanging on by a thread (already lifting up again at the edges). The 3M tape is useless.

Seems like you've tried everything to get it to stick too. Of course no one here seems to believe that the spoiler just won't hold its shape...

I don't think they quite realize the curve it has to follow to fit an A33 trunk lid.

 

what if someone with some time on their hands could mount the spoiler with glue to some sort of thin object shaped like the spoiler bottom and than mount it like a regular spoiler with screws so that the plastic doesent come apart when the screw goes in like a piece of thin sheet metal or something. casue i was looking into it but i dont have the timne to mess around with all this stuff since im gonna be taking summer semesters at school.
