our factory car alarm

I know car alarms can be hacked but does anyone know if our factory car alarms can be hacked? Am I the only one who still has just their factory alarm? I guess this hacking thing doesn't happen too often or I would have heard about it by now. I'm going to school in Mexico and I just wanted to be sure I'm not missing anything. Does anyone have any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

The shock sensor detects vibration and sets off the alarm. If someone smashes the glass or hits the car the alarm will go off. It's the same usage of the word shock as in shock absorber.

there are also special sensors which sense the sound of breaking glass. My old SAAB used to have one.

Don't know about hacking the alarm as in editing the firmware on how the alarm functions, but you can add accessories to the factory alarm. I added the shock sensor and it was VERY easy to do. Do a search (or ask someone) and you should be able to find it. It might even be in the stickies. Works in the same theory as say someone opening your door and it sends a trigger to the alarm brain, but instead you splice in a 'whatever' sensor to have power and to be able to send a signal to the alarm brain when tripped. You should be able to add motion sensor, glass tamper sensor, trunk poper (don't know the correct term), and mod your windows to roll up with the factory alarm controller (though this has more to do with the window module than the alarm).

Only link I have on hand is for the Window Roll Up for 4th gen.

If you want an anti-theft device that will definitely prevent your car from ever being stolen, get a POWERLOCK.

http://www.powerlock.com/

I had one put on my daughter's Acura Integra -- a popular car with thieves. To start the car, you have a special key that de-activates the system either by being in proximity to it, or by touching the key to a small recepticle (typically mounted on your steering column, dash, or other inconspicuous place).

It cannot be hacked because the system is tied directly to the starter motor, and messing with the wires in any way will disable the starter.
