Spark Plug change

Is there link to change the Spark plugs for I35 2002?

Is the procedure same as 2002 Maxima?

If anyone has done it before.... how hard was it...

i hear that back plugs are very hard to get.

should i leave it to professional to do it?

thanks in advance

The procedure should be identical to that of the Maxima. Haven't done it yet as I haven't reached 100k (Maybe it's 95k?). At least that's when my dealer recommends doing it.

Yeah, the procedure will be the same as the 5.5gen Max. I've heard the VQ35 is more time consuming than the VQ30, but you should be able to handle it.

The factory suggests to replace at 100k, but I would probably do it before that. I've just hit 50k and am thinking seriously about doing this... Although the plugs are $20 each at the local Checkers. I'm know I can find them cheaper online because I'm sure as hell not going to pay $120 for sparkplugs.

I thought about changing the plugs, but I got to thinking about it - the car's running fine, I get pretty good gas mileage, doesn't seem like there's a need to change them yet. I'll just wait 'til the time comes. And considering how much I drive, it probably won't be that long anyway.

Newlove - have you checked what price DAVEB has on them?

You have to remove the intake manifold in order to get to the rear plugs on the 3.5L.

There's a write-up in the 5th gen stickys

Not that I've found (A33/B) But if you're ok with removing the IM, you should be fine in changing the rear plugs.

I understand. I'm at 79k right now, can't believe I've put nearly 80k miles on it in nearly 3.5 yrs. I thought my dad's 35 was bad at 105k, but damn, at 120k even you have him beat.

Damn... never knew you had to remove the IM to get at the rear plugs on the 3.5... My friends 96 mitsubishi is like that... always thought it was stupid as hell.

I guess nissan really dropped the ball on that one.

110k on spark plugs... I'm sure those things are baked to **** by now. I would not go more than 30k.

Well if you're only going 30,000 I hope you've changed to a different plug. No point in buying 100,000 mile plugs and only using them for 30,000 miles.

Just because nissan or any other manufacturer says 60k or 100k does not mean you should wait that long. Nissan says to change the oil filter every OTHER oil change... are you going to follow that too ?!? Honda says to change the oil every 7.5k and the filter every other change... 15k on an oil filter .

I put 30k on my last set of the standard ngk platinums and they were pretty much worn out. I couldnt imagine putting on another 30k or 70k... definately be getting some sh!tty performance then.

Platinum plugs really do last quite a long time. There is no way I would replace every 30k, I'm way too cheap for that. I pulled mine at 50k (as mentioned above) and they still looked pretty good.

I do understand what you are saying about the Mfgs recomendations though. I would definately not wait till 100k to replace. I'll probable do mine between 60-70k.

I wasn't really saying wait until 100k. I guarantee NGK recommends every 100k, but again I wasn't saying that. What I'm saying is if they recommend 100K I just can't say logically that I could justify replacing them at 30K miles. If I had that little confidence in the plugs I wouldn't spend $15/plug for them when there are much cheaper alternatives that would surely get you 30k miles of good performance.

$15 per plug?!? Where the hell are you buying them from... the local dealer? Using the NGK single platinum part number from my FSM, I was able to get them for $5 per plug from from a local auto parts store. And I dont think paying $30 every 2 years (30k) for new spark plugs is gonna break the bank. Besides I push my engine to the limit on a regular basis... there for I spare no expense to keep it in top notch condition.

I haven't bought them yet because I'm just getting to 80,000 miles. It's unusual to find NGK plugs $15 less than the dealer sells them for so I guess I made a bad assumption in my $5 reduction. If you're getting 100k plugs for 5 bux please send me the link. I would most definitely be changing these every 30,000 miles for that price.

I didnt get them online. I just used the ngk part number to call around town until I found them for the best possible price which was $5 per plug at carquest.
