Question about fule line?

So, this is an off the wall question, but it has captured my attention.

I was on my way home tonight and I noticed a girl in a Sabb who had broken down. As I drove by her, I noticed a very strong smell of gasoline and decided to stop and see if she needed help.

Turns out her car was sitting on a huge puddle of gasoline. She said she heard a loud thump while driving and then a short time later, her engine died. She got the car started and drove about 100 feet (leaving a large trail of gasoline) and then her engine died again.

I looked under her car and saw something (gas) dripping from under her car on the passenger side. It was not under the engine compartment but rather about 12 inches in from the side of the car back from the front wheel. She was now sitting in ANOTHER puddle of gasoline.

What could have happened and what could this have been?

I am guessing her gas line somehow got busted or something?????? I am very curious about this because I have never heard of a car leaking gasoline, let alone leaking it so fast!~

Fuel line probably broke.

After I installed my FMU for my turbo I did not clamp down a fuel hose and it worked loose. I was on the highway when it poped off and I lost almost a full tank of gas in just a few miles.

Damn! That sucks. How does the fuel line run from the gas tank to the engine? I mean is it just running along the bottom of the car like the break lines, or is it more protected than that?

Not every car is the same, but mainly a hard line is used and ran uder the body of the car. Some models have the fuel filter under there as well and leaks can occur at the fittings of the fuel filter

Thats funny, on tuesday I started my car and just for the hell of it I was looking under the car while it was warming up, and I saw a massive amount of fuel pouring down!!! I shut down the engine and I popped the hood and the top of the fuel filter was covered in fuel. I took the rubber fuel line off and it was cracked!! Anyways, I replaced it with some new hose I had laying around in my shop and I hit the road again banging gears!!!
