I noticed a really bad paint chip the other day. It’s small but it cuts all the way through. Someone listed info about an aftermarket clear-coat for our cars but I can’t find the thread. Anybody got any info/solutions?

 

Nissan touch up paint. The important thing is that you keep it from rusting.

Thanks, I've actually got some. I'll probably touch it up tommorow. I also want a long term solution so that I don't have to worry about chips like this popping up all the time too.

I make sure I always apply rust remover, if its gotten to that point - then I clean it off, and touch it up - almost always fixes the spot for good. I've got about 2 or 3 spots I need to do on my car right now...just keep putting it off!

 

Where did you get the Nissan touch-up paint?

 

Do you have before and after pictures? I have some small scratches I want to do, but did not trust any solutions I have found yet.

 

Good work. THe stuff really works great. If you use a steady hand, fill in the chip nice and smooth, and then wax oever it you can really cover it it nicley.

 

Get it from the dealer. Just give them your 3 digit color code from the info plate on the fire wall.

 

I got it from my local Infiiniti dealer. It's only about $10 to $15.

 

Sorry, not befoer and afters. It's really easy though.You just have to be careful not to have too much paint on the applicator because once you touch the car with it it's done. The guy at my dealership recommended using a toothpick w/just a dab of paint each time to fill holes. That way there won't be clumps of paint in one area.

 

Thanks. I will try to use the product on some of the scratches I have on my Infiniti I30. I will try it on a back passanger side scratch first. I will post before and after pictures once I get it done. Thanks for explaining that it worked and the suggestion of the toothpick.

 

What is the best way to avoid rust incase a small rock hits the hood while driving on the highway ? just curious for future.

every body guy I've ever talked to says stay away from touchup paint, it doesn't hold up....

But they probably want me to take it to them so they can charge a ridiculous ammount to repaint small dings and scratches..

I have a deep chip on my grille from a rock on the highway, and a few surface scratches on my passenger's side door, what applications is touch up paint designed for??

 

The way I look at is you have 3 options:

1. Do nothing and let it rust.
2. Take it to a shop (and they will just use touch up paint anyways and then heat the clear coat up, buff the hell outta the clear coat and then fucc you in the @ss on the cost).
3. Use touch up paint yourself. Use a steady hand. Refrain from using excessive amounts of paint. And finally, wax over the area. Repeat until the spot is smooth and even with the surrounding area.
