Strange Cold Start Issue
Strange Cold Start Issue
Hey guys....on my 98 I30t when I start the car cold (in the morning or after sitting for many hours) the engine will struggle to idle when its used to do the high idle like it should. Do I need to clean the TB or is this another issue like a cold start sensor or something?
If I dont physically hold the pedal to keep it at 1200 or so rpm for about 20 seconds, the car will either idle way low (struggling at like 500 rpm) or just die altogether...
Any idead??

The problems are probaably not related.
I had a cold start issue last year. First thing in the morning and after the car had been sitting for several hours. So I tested my fuel pressure and the fuel pump was not generating the proper 43 psi prior to start up nor holding the proper 34 psi while the vehicle was running. So, I replaced the fuel pump and never had a problem since.

i had a similar problem on my old 96 I30, it all lead to my starter burning out. If you're mechanically inclined go in there and change up the starter, it's not that hard but it could be a little expensive. It might solve your problem afterall. If you check the 4th gen how tos, you can find a starter rebuild how to and perhaps take your starter out and clean it and you may or may not see a difference. Try it, it might work, it did for me.
