Redone Fog Lights

Just thought I would share what I did today. I purchase a lens restore kit from Advanced Auto Parts to redo my fog lights. They were in very bad shape. Many chips and scratches and they looked like a yellow to light brown haze. The restore kit consists of 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 grit sand paper, soft application cloth and lens polish. I started with 1000 grit then worked up to the 2500 grit. This was my first time doing anything like this. I have to admit, the fogs lights turned out damn nice if I say so myself. It was like a night and day difference. 90% of the scratches and chips sanded right out and the lenses look like they are crystal clear. While my fog lights were out, I put them in the oven and unscrewed the prism thingy in front of the H3 bulbs. Now the fogs are much brighter.

By the way, does anyone know how to rewire the fog lights on a 2K I30t so they come on with the city or parking lights? I looked at the stickies but they only showed how to do it with the A32 and not A33. Somehow I'm not able to use the search feature on this forum. It says I don't have sufficient rights to do searches. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think the 5th Gen Maxima forum can answer your question on the rewire. They have a whole stick devoted to Do-It-Yourself (DIY). I believe the setup is the same.

see i've been looking for the fog light rewire how to as well but i remember a few weeks or so ago, someone stated that the procedures weren't the same and that instead of a pink wire there was someother wire....some kind of thing like that. Just to make this whole ordeal clear, can someone help me out, i couldn't do the rewire back when i came across the writeup/epiphany of the person who did theres recently, but i have the time now and def wanna do it. If you could help KI30t and myself out i'd appreciate it.

The lens polish kit was only 9 bucks. I recommend taking your time to do it right, or you will get bad results. Also I use an electric buffer to buff the lights during the final step. Much more efficient for me than doing it by hand.

Also on my car, the wire code is different from the 00 Maxima, so the maxima instructions did not work.

Nakulbhatt87, since no one is able to help us thus far, I was searching around on Google of all places and found this link to what you may be referring to. Here is the link. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=473218 I'm going to try it today and I'll let you know how it turns out.

awesome good find man, i had been looking for this thread just to make sure that the pink wire i kept recalling had to do with the I35 and not the 00+ I30s. Now just to makesure the oo maxima procedure works the same. I'll tackle this little project sunday when i do my own lens refreshening. New fog rewire and lenses, if all goes well it'll be sweet...

Actually, thanks forthe link, too. Thisis something I've been meaning to do, but havent got round to it. Sorry to mislead you to the 5th gen forums. Thought I heard they were the same for us 2K-2K1 I30 owners.

ki30t, i will look to see which wire you have to splice, it's very simply, did mine about 1 year now and no problem.

Thanks to all who are trying to help. I didn't get a chance to mess with my car on Sunday to try the fog light rewire. I keep you all updated.

Finally Success! Well sort of. I was able to rewire my fog lights so they turn on by themselves without the low beams being on. Under the fog relay is a blue wire with silver or grey dots. That is the wire we need to tap into unlike on the 5th gen maximas. However, I was not able to keep the fogs on while the high beams were on. What gives? Are any of you A33 owners able to keep your fogs on while the high beams are on? I live in a rural area where there are a lot of trees and back windy roads and plenty of deer. I want maximum light output, you know what I mean?

It's against the law to have more than four lights illuminating the road at one time. Hence your fogs cut out when you turn on your high beams.

I'll help and do it this time, but you guys should donate so you can search.

Is that what you meant by lexus yellow? There's a few I30/I35's with the yellow capsules. I don't know if anyone is using a HID kit with them though.

Stl I30,

Thanks for the reply. I had no idea that having more than 2 sets of lights on is illegal. Here where I live the roads are very, very dark and windy. It’s in the back country and very rural. I actually see cows and horses Sh#*! as I drive by. It's not unusual to see trucks and suv's with multiple light setups around here.

I have already found the procedure for redoing my fogs. On my 2K I30t I needed to cut the blue with silver stripes to rewire the fogs. I hope this helps others that maybe going through the same dilemma.

For anyone else who might be considering the yellow HID fog light conversion, here is a link I found. Thanks again for everyone who has helped me out.
