Thank you
Motor mounts typically only make noises under accel/decel, as the engine moves around.

Sway bar end links commonly cause a clunking noise when going over bumps, but strut mounts can cause these noises as well. Did he replace just the struts, or the mounts as well?

He thought the mounts looked good and didn't put new ones on. He did mention that it could be the strut mounts that need replacing. It is definitely a clunking/rattling noise.

I will definitely have him check the end links as well.

hello all..first of all wanted to say great forum..tons of info of which i have already benefited and just signed up..ok to the questions..Im About to purchase a 2010 Maxima with 217 miles on it.
.My question is since it has probably been test driven a bit, by diffrent folks more than likely at several diffrent speeds.could that effect the longevity of the engine for i have read about the way you are supposed to break in an engine is fairly strict, and since the dealer are deeming it new, will it make a differncei in the long run???

also how soon should i change the oil and would synthetic be better.??

1 more thing.from the great info here i read about the famous Nissan pull to the right and when it did this on my test drive..was able to search and find a NTSB that i printed and took to the dealer..so they are fixing it or i aint buying it....thanks for info

.appreciate all responses.and great info from this site..thanks Mikeyshea..about to be Maxima owner

Hey, I brought 2002 infiniti i35 with 125k miles couple days ago, so I have some questions.
1. I didn't get remote yet, but trunk button is not working on a driver's door, is that common problem? if it is, is the problem located at the door or at the trunk?
2. Random question, but what can I do to hold suction cups stronger to the window? (I installed LED Strobe lights on the car)
3. My subwoofer not working, I read that maximas have common problems with circuit board, does that applies to infiniti as well?
4. Is it time to change timing belt?
That's it for now, sorry for stupid questions, thanks

As far as the timing belt? You don't have one. Its a chain.

I found a hole on the right side on the firewall. There should be a circle rubber grommet there. You can pop it off. Straight shot to the interior. For power.

Subwoofer....yes, same applies.

the trunk....make sure fuse isn't blown. If not. Start at the switch on the door. Make sure its getting power. If it is, then its the switch. Replace.

thanks

Thanks a lot Joekers,
one more question about subwoofer, incase circuit board will not work, if I will pass the circuit board, what wires do I connect to the subwoofer? the wire that goes to the circuit board has like 5 different wires and the speaker has place only for two. Which wires do I connect to the speaker?

Not sure on that one. I gutted and replaced all that stuff. But, there are some pretty good write ups on here and nicoclub.com

Oh wait! The sub has its own amp. So, your probably looking at a remote, power, ground, and two speaker wires. The sub is a 2 ohm speaker

Hey. I have 2002 i35 and from full tank until low fuel indicator I get about 260 miles. Is that good? Or its too low? Thanks

That's an incredibly inaccurate way to measure efficiency. Try this instead, then let us know what you get.

Top off your gas tank and set the trip odometer to 0.

Next time you fill up your gas tank, top it off just like you did before, but write the miles from the trip odometer on the receipt. (let's say you went 155 miles, and put in 8.3 gallons)

When you get home, whip out your trusty calculator and do some math. Divide the miles driven by how much gas you used (155 / 8.3)
The resulting number will be your MPG -- in this example it's 18.7 mpg

That seems like the low side of average. My driving mainly consists of very short stop and go trips and I rarely see more than 18 mpg. Although I have the 3.0L not the 3.5 but from what I gather, mileage between the two is roughly the same.

That strikes me as a little low too. However, driving style might have a lot to do with it as well.

That mileage test was only over a few days. Take an average over the next 2 tanks and see if it goes up a bit. Also take an honest look at how you're driving it -- are you hotrodding it a bit, are you making a lot of short trips where the engine doesn't warm up all the way?

Also, my mileage is noticeably lower with regular fuel. Premium is recommended for our cars so try a higher grade fuel if you aren't already. It was a big enough difference for me that using regular fuel would not be cost effective.

The trip computer also gives you your mpg rating, just hold down the trip button to reset it and it'll start fresh. I typically never get lower than 21mpg and in the summertime I get nearly 400 miles per tank. Living in Wisconsin helps since even my city driving tends not to be hugely stop and go.

okey

Just did check second time. This time I went to 4000 RPM only like twice, all the time I didn't even get up to 3000 RPM. This time I goto 16.5 MPG so obviously something going on. I had this car for little over a month and I think that right when I brought it it was giving me better mileage, but after I changed front 3 spark plugs thats when it started giving me problems, of course it coule be coincidence. I used to have check engine light for misfire of 4th cylinder even after I changed the sparkplug, but it was solved after I changed the ignition coil on the 4th cylinder. You think it possible that one of the other front ignition coil gone bad after I removed them to change the sparkplugs? May be I should change other 2 front ignition coils?

well, looks like nobody knows. I changed 2 front ignition coils and that didn't help. Soon I will change spark plugs in the back and will let you know if it helped.

Have another question. Today after 30 minute drive at night I noticed that one of my headlights instead of white bright color had purple. After turning lights off for couple minutes and turning them back on, the light was white bright again.

Does that mean that my bulb is bad? If it is, can I replace the bulbs for more brighter or better bulbs? Thanks

Yes, you can get a better bulb. You need a D2R.

thanks a lot. Can you recommend me a better bulb? I read here that 10k bulbs would not be bright but instead very dim. As I understand, the stock i35 bulbs are 4300k which are bright white? Which bulbs should I get to have super white bright? how about little blue but still bright? thanks

I'm pretty new to this forum as well. Just bought my 2003 a few weeks ago and noticed the same problems with my HID lights, i spoke with someone at a few places but I found xenon liquidators to have be the most knowledgeable and they always answered the phone. They said this is a common characteristic of when the HID light is about to burn out....Starts turning purple/pink then just shuts off.

I would go with the D2R 6000k, I purchased my last set for my Infinity with www.xenonliquidators.com and the company and lights are great, still working in the infinity for 2 1/2 years no problems plus they give a 5 year warranty so keep your receipt for record.

Here's the breakdown on HID lights I've learned:

4300k (stock) - Very bright white.
6000k - Diamond white with a tint of blue (my favorite)
8000k - Blue - not recommended - the distance the light travels is minimal and you will find your self having a hard time seeing at night or when its raining.
10000k - same as above with more purple added.
12000k - same as above with a lot more purple.

Hope this helps.

All that is true. Personally 4300k is as close to natural light your going to get. After this your buying a tint of color on the ballast. So, its tinting your light. Get it?

Thanks a lot, I purchased from the xenonliquidation the 6k bulbs.
I installed them and they look pretty good. Its diamond white so they not really blue, but rather white and seem like little bit of green included, but just LITTLE BIT.

My brother said it is a little brighter, but I am not sure as I read somewhere that 5k is the brightest and 6k supposed to be like 5% less. Speaking of stock 4.3k, it might be same brightness as 6k or close to it.

Anyway, I installed it and took some pictures on how to do the replacement. I will post it here once I get 15 posts

When you receive your lights it takes a few weeks for the burner to get to get to its optimal color is my understanding. All light manufacturers differ but my experience xenonliquidators.com has the best look at the best price. I bought 5000k PIAA's for the Infinity ($200+) the first time around and after 2 months the light turned purple then blew out. Like I said before the xenonliquidators have been running great for 2 1/2 years now in the Infinity.

5k is supposed to replicate actual light the best but since the PIAA lights I rather like the 6k much better. After I get 15 posts I'll post some pics as well.

look forward in seeing your lights and tutorial. It was kind of a pain the first time around for me so hopefully it will help some folks out.

Noob here. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I have exhaust issues on a 2001 I30. I forgot the code and don't have the paperwork (have to get it printed out again) but it has to do with catalytic converter(s).

The recommendation by a muffler shop was to change the exhaust ($1K in parts and then some more for labor).

I understand that a Y pipe is good for sound and adds performance. I also know it bypasses the precats. Will the y pipe enable the car to pass emissions? I'm not sure about spending 1500 plus on a 2001. But if I can do it cheaper and get more performance....yeeaahh!

If so, anyone know a good place to have it worked on in Houston (i've posted in the Houston section as well)?

Please PM but I'll check frequently here.

Thanks!

I have a 99 I30 and I was noticed quite a bit of oil around a sensor on the right side of the motor and was wondering if anyone knows what it is and how to fix it. It's above the belts on the right side of the motor if this helps. Also I have a picture but I'm not sure of how to post it on here.

I have the same car and I'm going to guess that you got the P0420 Code. There's lots of chatter about that in the Maxima section of the same year.

I had the local Nissan (no Infiniti dealers in this part of the state) reflash my ECU and so far the light has stayed off. Has something to do with widening the tolerances which were a little too strict at initial programming.

Actually, I just verified that it is P0430. I thought it was yours too but remembered incorrectly.

I saw a bunch of talk on the maxima sections and elsewhere on the internet. Guess I just have to find a good mechanic and see how he approaches it.

It would be great if the Y pipe "fixed" everything.

Satellite Radio

I am looking at a 2004 I35. Not crazy about the color, platinum, as I previously owned a Royal Ruby 02 I35, and that was beautiful. But, this is really clean with 75K mi. My question is, I thought I read somewhere that I35's were wired for satillete radio in 03-04. I don't see any antenna on this, other than the am/fm wires in the rear window. The seller doesn't know as this was his father's car, and he passed away a few months ago.

did you check to make sure it wasn't locked? I think there is a switch inside the trunk that will only allow the trunk to open with the key. So you can stash your illegals in there and have the cops not be able to search it without warrant. lol

Hey there noob wanting to ask a few question. First of all this site has came a very long way. I had a 02 Maxi a few years ago... My questions for you guys is.. Does this come stock in the i30t >>> or is this a mod? I want to do the Head light/fog light mod also but would that kill the turn signal cornering light also? Last but not least I want to get a copy of my key made but I am not sure if my key has a chip in it. I've look at it closely and didn't notice one.

Thanks for the advice. I did check it before and it was fine. At that time I did not have remote. After I got remote and set it up it did not work, but after about a week the switch started work, that's strange, but now it works
