?????????Engine light on??????????
Sup All,
Yesterday, i started my car and i noticed some shaking.
Shaked for 10 minutes. After that it went away but the "Engine Light Soon" came on. Didn't get a chance to go to mechanic yet to check computer but anyone have any idea? 2000 i30 with 48 K miles.
Friends are saying O2 Sensor. Saw it for $103.00, is that a good price?
Thanks for help.

same problem with me. starting 2 weeks ago. Goto Autozone and they will read the code for free. Mine started like that and its more frequent now. If I go over 60 mph it will start shaking and then it will be alright. If your code is P1320, whihc i think it is, then its a misfire. But we dont know which cylinder it is unless it give anotehr code like P0301 etc. The problem is that one of the six ignition coils is BAD. This is a well known maxima/I30 issue for 1999-2002.
I was told by the dealer to wait until one coil totally dies or change all the 6 coils. Their prices are f...... expensive. A coil for about $100 and total about 1000$. I found them online for 49$ each and we can change it in 1-2hrs. I am still waiting to see if it wil show up a cylinder code. I reset the check engine light 3 times but the only code I get always is P1320.
So I will wait a few more days and then I will change all the six. If yours is under warranty u can ask the dealer. Mine is a 2000 I30 with 78K miles. It was pinging a lot for last couple of months,...

ignition coils from ACDELCO are ~$55 a piece. The ones from Standard motor products inc are $49 a piece. The ones from courtesy nissan are $65 a piece.
Can anyone tell me if they are all the same or if anyone has ever used stuff from SMP??

if the ones from courtesy nissan are nissan than get them, btw you totally hi-jacked this kids thread, but I geuss it's better than seing a bunch of pointless posts around trying to get to 15.
Ummm, well with the symptoms you described it's probably the o2 sensor however there is also a really good chance it could be a malfunctioning flex capacitor, I think you should check your trouble codes first, you can do it yourself with only a screwdriver and a service manual, you can even find how to do it on here or download the fsm on here for free, you do have a screwdriver right?

I am having a similar problem. The coil isn't totally dead.hile driving all of a sudden I get the service light on and the car shakes for a few seconds and it goes off as I slow down.. its fine for a few days before it starts again..
P1320 says ignition primary. Is this definitely a coil issue? Can anyone help me?
I dont want to buy 6 new coils only to find out its not a coil problem.
I bought the tools and did a test run on removing all the 6 coils. I am no auto expert but I am able to pull them out and put them back in about 45 mins. THANKS to this great forum.. Now I am very confident I can do it.. If anyone can please confirm if P1320 is the coils, I will be very thankful.. These dont have the silver dot on them, which means they are probably the defective ones nissan had in 1999-2002.
Also on the front right most one I saw some more red lines on side than others. Some are just fine. Im thinking this is the bad one...
Thanks.

Hi guys, just wanted to update you on the coil stuff. I got the new coils with grey dot on them and changed all my coils. It was easy. Remember not to loose the bolt that holds the coils. While I was changing hte rear right most coil, the bolt fell off and I couldnt find the damn thing. neither infiniti or nissan dealers have the bolt. Luckily my neighbor had a mangetic retriever tool and I was able to use it and get the damn bolt. So be careful when putting hte bolts on the rear ones.
I got autozone to reset my check engine light. Hopefully, the random misfire is gone now. However, this did not totally remove the damn pinging noise. It still rarely pings. Definitely not as bad when one coil of those coils is bad. BTW I found these genuine nissan coils for 280$ w/shipping (usps priority).

hey i ran some code checks on my car and it's pulling i believe P0420 , which is a problem with the catalytic converter, what it actually is though, is the o2 sensors on bank1 arn't working properly, i was wondering what the best place to buy o2 sensors from would be? whats good brands for them? any help would be great thanks.
edit: probally should have mentioned it's a 2001 i30

Definitely not a good idea to drive it if it's BLINKING. Get that checked ASAP.

I had this problem on my first I30. Apparently, it is quite frequent on 2000-2001's. If you go to the infiniti or nissan dealership, they will do an ECU upgrade that could fix the problem, otherwise, if that upgrade has already been done(dealership will be able to tell you.), you need a new O2 sensor, and possibly a new y-pipe. Me, being the idiot I am, had the nissan dealerhip replace it with OEM parts. 600 bucks for OEM y-pipe, 103 for O2 sensor, and 280ish for labor. JUST over $1K buckaroos to fix.
My advice: If you do in fact want/ need to replace the whole she-bang, buy an aftermarket y-pipe (half the price of OEM), and install it yourself. (less than 500 EASILY)
tried looking for DYI to replace ignition coils, found some stuff but no pics.
anyone know of any sites to replace coils, front coils seems easy but the rear coils seems a little hard.
any help is appreciated.
thanks

FYI, just changed the ignition coils, saved $150.00. Thanks to everyone, help was usefull.
I noticed 2 spark plugs were smelling like gasoline was on it and the other 4 were ok.
That's not suppose to happen, i don't think so.
Any comments.

Howdy folks,
My first post here and I happen to have run into the same problem. Sad part is . . I just purchased my I30 yesterday afternoon. I guess I will run out to autozone tomorrow morning to see what is going on. This car runs very well and has excellent options . .big upgrade from a Toyota MR2 to this car. So far. . .I've been happy with it . . then again it hasn't been 24 hours yet. I'll keep you folks updated and look forward to being a part of the I30 family.

Hmmm . . i noticed my car shaking a bit too. I thought it was my tires at first . . but might be ignition coils too??? Well, I am going to Autozone first thing in morning on Monday to see what the deal is. Does anyone have a link of how to replace the ignition coils or know a good website where we can purchase the replacements at?? Newbie here . .so I am looking to give my I30 a good cleaning with oil, trans oil, plugs, and new tires. Thanks!

ok, let's add this to the mix. Same problems as y'all are having on my 2000 I30, this morning it was cold outside and it ran really rough with the check engine light coming on. Went out to drive it as it warmed up outside and no signs of stutter or anything. O2 sensor or coils?

Note that your coil has to be malfunctioning all the time for this method to work.
I did have a bad coil once before - but it gave me "cylinder 2 misfire" code which made it pretty easy to figure out which one to replace.
So I'd like to utilize your method to figure out which one I need to replace - but it doesn't run bad all the time. Any other way to figure it out?
