gotta serious sunroof issue

Today, i noticed that the sunroof in my car wasn't operating properly. Symptoms: when attempting to open the sunroof all the way using the automatic or hold feature, the sunroof will move only a few inches at a time, never maintaing a continous movement. Also, the tilt open, tilt close, slide open, slide close are all going through the same stages....IE with slide closed depressed (while sunroof is still closed) the sunroof will tilt open and vice versa. I really want to fix this, any ideas?

I would first attempt to do the sunroof "reset" procedure located in your owners manual. If that is unsuccessful, then you may need to see a professional.

A reset should fix it, just press the foward tilt button for 5 seconds and you're good to go.

if not, I had the same problem in my diamante. (like if I wanted to close my sunroof from being full open, I would hold the close button, and it would PASS the closed position and pop up.) To save money on labor, I pulled my headliner out and took it to the dealer. one side of my cable was off by like 1/2 an inch in relation to the other. he evened the cables out and reset the motors for about 30 bucks. From then on out, the sunroof would stop like 3-4" short of full open for some reason.
took me a lil over an hour to get the headliner out and a lil less to get it back in.

The reset procedure for 2k2+ guys is different than that for 2000-2001 guys.

IIRC, try unplugging the battery to reset it. I think that's how it has to been done pre-VQ35.

If I remeber correctly, I got all three when the coils started to go. They would come on at start up and the car would run poorly for a few minutes. Check the code at Autozone for free.

Are your coils the original?

As far as im concerned, the coils ARE original because i bought the car with over 90k on it so i dont' know. On a lighter note, I did reset the ecu and the sunroof is working and the lights are also gone. So that's good, but when and if it comes up i'll definitely go to autozone and get the codes. thanks guys peace
