n3985's Lighting Evolution Worklog Begins....

Since he is using Aftermarket, halogen housings, I doubt that there is anywhere to mount the ballasts on the lamp.
I would just extend the wiring and mount the suckers on the flat part of the bumper just above the foglights. It's probably one of the closest locations for a clean installation.
I wouldn't worry about water as some may be thinking. Those ballasts are sealed pretty well and fording rivers is not highly recomended in these vehicles anyway.

As I'm sitting here staring at my PITA reflector headlights, I have to ask...have you fired up the high beam on those projector headlights to see how good its coverage is?
That's part of my motivation for using the OEM-style headlamps, in that I love the coverage of the high beam and how it floods the road with light.
Basically, I'm trying to talk myself into using the projector style lamps (though perhaps with a shroud swap)...LOL.

Small update:
Because I have been stranded indoors due to the weather, I've figured out that my horizontal aiming is fine by using a torpedo level. So I am going to buy some springs to hold the projector in place, seal everything together, and just install it on the car. While I was bored I wrapped the back of the "angel eyes" with metallic tape to trap as much light as possible projecting forward. While this did not do too much, the rings are definitely more defined than before, but it still leaves the fact that these LED angel eyes are dim. I have also received my Bosch mini H3 projectors and a practice fog light from Meta, so part 2 should begin soon!

Here is the FINAL projector mounted onto the bracket:
From the lens inward it is bolt>projector>nut>spring>nut>bracket>lock washer>nut
And I am definitely....and finally going to seal these up tomorrow and try to get it on the car ASAP.

Good to hear
Also - not questioning your approach or anything, but is there any particular reason you chose to use springs to fill the gap rather than using say, standard-length nylon spacers?
What you have works just fine (was using springs to mount my projectors) - just curious.

Well all the other retros I've seen use springs to keep the tension and make sure the bolts and nuts don't move. So I just followed suit. And as for your earlier high beam question, it is just a round reflective "bowl", which is exactly the same as what the new 5 series have for their high beams, so I guess the output should be ok. And I got your PM, don't know if you received my reply, but I will take extra pics once it is done.

ok i know this may sound dumb, but im looking for the least expensive with the best quality. I have a 2001 I30 with the halogen headlights.
Im and trying to do the same thing n3985 has done with his I35.
1. Because i have a i30 - where can i get the i35 HID headlights/ballast/etc. components from to swap with my I30.
2. Are there any i35s out there that came stock with HIDs and the projectors?
3. are the i35 fog lights HID too? If not how would u convert them? Please dont tell me you need a HID kit..
4. Why did N3985 get ebay projectors and TSX projectors?
5. How much would everything cost me? n3985 said $500 but i dont have the i35 with HIDs already.
Noob here!! Sorry...i have read everything from HIDplanet..but im more confused. I read everything here and im starting to understand.

1. you can find I35 HID headlights from eBay, junk yard, or $$$$$$ from the dealer.
2. All I35s come with stock REFLECTOR HIDs, and none with projectors.
3. I35 fogs are not HID, you will need to buy a H3 mini kit to conver them.
4. I bought eBay projectors because I wanted the ease of a projector swap, rather than the full hassle of a real retrofit where I will be cutting apart a set of I35 headlights.
5. Cost will depend on how good of deals you can find on eBay and/or HIDplanet.
Lastly, I highly suggest you read the HIDs for newbies thread in the HIDplanet's HID University section. It will teach about HIDs, the differences bewteen components and etc.

Thanks n3985...
I understand now! after reading HIDplanet. I think the hardest part will be finding the i35 HID assy.
would you suggest i just buy the entire i35 HID headlight assy or just the composite headlights, but im not sure if the composite headlights come with all the relays and ballast and etc that i need.

You will NOT need to buy OEM I35 headlights. You will need a pair of projector headlights on ebay (or elsewhere), then some similarly sized HID projectors (n3985 used some projectors form a TSX). You will also need to find HID ballasts and bulbs (D2S), plus some relays (HID kit makers usually sell them).
