1999 vs 2001 suspension differences

Anybody know if the suspension changed when the I30 body style changed from A32 to A33? When I looked up the specs online I found the following for both 1999 and 2001:

Suspension: Strut front suspension w/ stabilizer bar independent of coil springs, beam rear suspension w/ stabilizer bar rigid w/ coil springs.

Further research says that new for 2001, I30 rear multi-link suspension is refined through the use of thicker front and rear stabilizer bars, adoption of larger and softer trailing link bushings, and a relocation of the system's unique lateral link to behind the rear beam.. .

OK. .. so you're probably saying, you answered your own question.. well. What I wanna know is if I can run A33 coilovers on my A32 car? For A32, Tein only makes a Basic Coilover. For A33, they make a Super Street Coilover kit.

Next, I know air runner makes air bags for the A33 but not for A32, so if there are no changes in the strut/shock assembly, do you think it will mount properly? If not, do you think it will require a lot of modification to make it fit?

Any help would be appreciated. I know the easiest way to test it out would be to purchase a set of coilovers to see if it fits, but hell, there's no way a tune shop will refund my money if it doesn't fit since I am knowingly buying coilovers from a different chassis code, and 1500 isn't something I have just lying around. Orrrrrrrr. . mebbe somebody has some stock suspension parts in their garage that they would like to send to me?

There are minor changes between A32 and A33. On the front strut the mounting holes are slightly different where it meets the knuckle assembly. Also, the height is slightly different if using stock mounts & bearings. There's a 1/2" vert spacer included with some kits. I would've loved the SuperStreets and EDFC on my A32 but Tein flat out said they wouldn't warranty support the install (this was 2 years ago).

That said both differences can be overcome with some drilling (elongating the holes) and adding some spacers up top (or pillowballs).

I don't recall if the rears were identical... Anybody?

The rear upper mounts are larger on the A33. The shocks and springs are the same size, just different rates adn valving. You could run either rears as long as you get the correct upper mount. For the fronts you'd need to swap knickles since the bolt spacing is differnt for the 2 lower strut bolts. The upper mount bolt pattern is the same however. The front struts and springs are pretty much the same size and shape, just some minor differences. Before AGX were available for the A33, Cattman and others were modifying the A32's to fit.

so then would it be safe to assume that I could use upper strut mounts from.. say a 1996 maxima on a 2000 I30 without much alteration? I'm getting a hollow sound when running over potholes/bumps and I think its in my upper strut mount. I have some KYB upper strut mounts I ordered for my 96 max that I never used that are still in the box.

I researched the kyb product list and the 95-99 and 2000-2001 infinities and maximas both have different part numbers. they are the same for each car for the years however.

So, sounds like i need to trade up or purchase new strut mounts.

Just throw on some tokico illuminas and all new bushings, rubbers, and boots. Set the struts on setting 2 and you'll have a smooth ride.

I don't think it gets any more english than that. Buy some TOKICO ILLUMINA brand shocks along with new boot/ bump stops, strut bearings, poly tubes for the bottom of the springs, and strut mount rubber. Set the struts on setting 2 and be done with it.

Maxima
(Cefiro A32) 95-99 CNS04-KP $1150 9/504
6/336 Incl. Front Pillow Ball Mount & Rear Top Mount
Maxima
(Cefiro A33) 00-03 CNS05-KP $1150 9/504
7/392 Incl. Front Pillow Ball Mount
Maxima
(Cefiro A34) 04-up CNS06-KP $1150 9/504
7/392 Incl. Front Pillow Ball Mount
