re-attach rear view mirror?
re-attach rear view mirror?
In a drunken haze, some girl knocked off my 96 I30 autodimming rear view mirror last night. I've been trying to re-attach it but I can't seem to get some big metal screw into some strange looking metal paperclip looking thing which is attached to that the bracket (?). Also, there was some rubber cylinder piece which was touching the windshield and I have not idea what it was for or whether I need to crazy that thing back on?
Help?
Thanks

rubber thingy
I'll try to get a look at mine today for you about the screw but the rubber thing just sits between the windshield and the post that drops down from the bracket.
It is not glued in from the factory and is probably only there to limit vibration to the mirror. It gets mounted on the little protrusion on the back of the post and just compresses against the windshield.
Hopw you had fun last night.....

It sounds like your mirror is the same as on my Z. The trick is to slide out/remove the metal clip, attach mirror to winshield, slide retaining clip through/around the big metal screw. Replace plastic cover and done. The rubber cylinder is for vibration dampening, not a real biggie.
