ANOTHER crunked teardown of a VQ30DE (170k)

I did this once before, since the I30 forum is a little on the boring side.......

Engine had 170k and was running fine, still pulled hard, but the last 30k of it's life was hard for sure, I beat on cars, some may remember my 2 telephone pole long strip.........ummmmm.......rev-limiter me likey......

oohh..... a mouse nest under the intake.....

wow, those cams look pretty mint......

Like WHOA! they spec out PREFECT! Like brand new for the oil clearance anyways.......

Maybe I should pull the plugs and do a compression test....... (coppers 1-step colder w/about 20k looked suprisingly nice except for being VERY rounded which was to be expected, but color wise they all looked REALLY good, not like the damn 1 step hotter plugs the infiniti dealer put in for the previous owner, wtf?

Ouch, 140, not bad at all considering....but a little weak, better just pull it apart for the fun of it and for the aluminum..........

wow, good thing, this thing HAS seen better days......

150Lb's of aluminum after EVERYthing was stripped, even the exhaust studs were cut out and the valves taken out of the heads...... At 70cents a lb compared to 10cents for 'irony aluminum' it's worth it. So, what is it all worth? 150lb's of aluminum @ 70cents a pound= $105 dollars, unfortunatly that's all a good running VQ30 is worth, SCRAP!

This time I didn't measure as much, or at least I justr measured some different stuff, everything was pretty good, but showed wear of course, unlike the cams, the rod & main bearings weren't much better than the last crunked teardown visually, but I'm sure they still would have been within spec and nowhere near the service limit.

Valve spring free-length= 46.8 (46.93 new)
Camshaft journal 1= 25.95mm (25.935-25.955 spec given)
Camshaft journals 2,3,4,= 23.45mm (23.445-23.465.......)
Cam bearing oil clearance= .05mm (standard=.045-.086)
Valve stem diameter/intake= 5.97 (5.965-5.980)
Valve stem diameter/exhaust= 5.95 (5.945-5.960) I need to invest in a nice micrometer, my vernier calipers may have been slightly innacurate if I REALLY needed to be precise, but they did the job, just made it take longer and more of a pita.

Right on. IIRC this one was not as corroded as the last one... rust city. I'm real suprised by that piston.

Yeah the other one sat outside for a few months. yeah I was suprised by the piston to, I was suprised also that the top-end was very nice yet the pistons looked like that and all the lower end bearings had as much visible wear as that last motor, I suspect that she either used to get on it or hop right on the highway first thing in the morning OR something to do with the fact that the title in her name listed the mileage as 1,000 and change when she bought it, so it might have been driven by someone at the dealership who wailed on it right out of the box unless she randomly payed her entire loan off after having it for only a month or two. I'm thinking since it was the first year it came out and a stick someone high up at the dealership was like "oh hell yeah, we're making this thing a demo, I wanna drive this biatch home tonight" I'm not complaining by any means though, it was still fast as hell and didn't burn much oil, I only pulled it for the swap. ummmmm, now accepting donations/sponsors for a clutchmasters stage 3, lol..........
