Cost to replace muffler? '02 I35 Sport
Over the past month, my car has been getting louder and louder. Sure enough, my muffler has a rusted hole.
I called the local Midas shop and he quoted me $325 installed for a generic aftermarket muffler installation.
I don't want anything performance... anything loud... I just want a economy replacement for my stuff muffler.
I'll be calling some local muffler places tomorrow. What price should I expect (installed) for a replacement muffler?

Check ebay or on here in the classifieds for something stock and cheap. Also, www.car-part.com for a used unit.
Keep in mind, a 00-01 will also fit as well.

A touch beat up. But something to hold you off, or at least the sound.

I don't want to get new because I'm only going to have this car for another 9 to 12 months. At that point I am transitioning from new home sales into construction management and my new position will require a truck... I'll probably buy a Frontier at that point.
So, to make a long story short, I'd like a economical solution to hold this vehicle over for the next year. Thanks for the tips, fellas.
EDIT: If I do buy a used (or possibly new) unit, how difficult is it to install myself? I've done brake jobs, oil/tranny fluid changes, etc. but I've never done any exhaust work. If it requires welding I'll have to tap out and pay somebody.

Just an update... it was not a hole in my muffler. I took the car to a local exhaust place (Economy Muffler, Melbourne, Florida) and they showed me that the pipe before the muffler had actually totally split near the flange from rust.
They fixed me all up for $25 (some welding) and the car sounds brand new again! Thanks for the tips again.
