Is this a good buy?

1998 i30 that won't start(was told that it may need a new starter to run)
172,000 miles, interior and exterior are fair. I'm paying $1,250.00 for this. I'm thinking if I invest another 1 to 2 thousand, I can have this baby looking good and lasting a good 30,000 miles. Thoughts????

If I was you i would bring someone who is a mechanic or someone who knows about cars to go with you to look at it. Clean title? I got my 01 i30 70k miles for 2k and spent another 2k to make it look as good as new.

Smack the starter with something while someone turns the key....if it starts up, replace your starter...

2 years ago I bought a 96 I30 that wouldn't start with 153k on the odo for $400. the car wouldn't start even with a jump.
I bought my 98 I30t with 183k for >$2k in september. only thing it needs is a power steering leak fixed. runs and drives fine.

yup it was a minor damage and i got a whole front end for under 1g and got the whole car painted for 350(bought the factory paint 2 qrts for 500 and clear coat was like 150. The total I spent was under 4,500. Oh i forgot to say I got it off an auction site.

yeah, but to me, buying a part for a car to see what the other potential problems may be is stupid. I played it safe and told him i wasn't interested.
I do keep thinking about buying a starter for it though. I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Bought the wife a 97 I30 A/T with 94k miles and super clean interior for $3300 two months ago.

Invested another grand in the following:

-Rear rotors & pads
-Belts & pulley
-New rack & pinion

-15% tints & remove old tint - $140
-Stillen Intake - $55

Runs strong.

I wouldnt buy the car unless you can atleast get it started once to make sure the trans and motor are good. also if you can do a compression check and scan the ecu for any code's . There are some better deal's out there.
