Check the Manual, although you should have it, all 98s have it as far as I know

most it not all i30's come with the remote system. I believe if you have a security light, it indicates you have a remote system. But i can be wrong. buy a fob from a 95-99 maxima or i30 and read the stickies on how to program the remote to the car. The fob's you can get here for around $20 shipped

yep most come with remote, i paid 25 bucks on ebay. and programming is a breeze. u cud by a maxima remote also as long as the fcc id # ends with A078

PROGRAM KEY FOB
QX4, 1997-2004 Q45, I30, I35,1999-2002 G20, FX, G35, M45, Most Nissan Vehicles
The horn chirp can be disable by pressing the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously until the hazard lights flash, and no enable press the lock and unlock until the horn chirp.
To reprogram (enter new ID) key fob (keyless remote controller) follow the steps.
1. Close all doors and lock all doors
2. Insert and remove the key from the ignition key cylinder more than six times within 10 seconds.
(The hazard warning lamp will then flash.)
NOTE:
Key should be withdrawn from ignition key cylinder completely each time.
NOTE:
Do not rush the insertion/removal key cycling process. The side
marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this step is
accurately completed.
3. Insert key on ignition key cylinder and turn ignition key switch to "AAC" position
At this time, the new ID code is entered and original (previous) ID codes are erase.
4. Press any button on the new remote controller once. (The hazard warning lamp will then flash)
NOTE:
Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button
is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful.
The side marker/tail/license lamps and interior illumination will flash twice when this
step is accurately completed and programming is successful.
If there is only one remote controller skip step 5.
5. Additional ID code entry
Release the door lock, then lock again with door lock/unlock switch
(In power window main switch)
6. Remove key from ignition
7. Unlock driver side door, open driver side door and then close the door. (END)
NOTE:
If you need to activate more than two additional new remote controllers, repeat
the procedure on step 5 "Additional ID code entry" for each new remote controller.
NOTE:
Entry of maximum four ID codes is allowed and any attempt to enter more will be ignore.

I just bought a 1999 Maxima this weekend and it didnt come with a keyless entry remote, I went through the steps above to see if had keyless entry built into the car. When I put the key in and out of the ignition 6 times nothing happens (no lights flash). I went to the dealer and he verified through the VIN # that the car is equipped with keyless entry. Does anyone have any idea why the car wont flash the hazards when I am going through the set up steps?

Did you put it in acc? Make sure you do each step correctly, it has to work.

I did some other research today and apparently you have to do it slowly in those 10 seconds. I put it in, pulled it out, paused....put it in, pulled it out, paused...etc. That worked! Earlier I was pulling it out like the directions said but I was eager to make sure I did it in the 10 seconds that I guess I was doing it to fast. Thanks for yall's help!

Wait.....we're still talking about programming remotes, right?

Where 10 seconds is concerned, I certainly hope so anyway.

I think I need a cigarette!!!! From my experience, going slowly seems to work best.

I'm just saying.

I have a 97 Maxima GXE and it didn't come with the factory install. I highly recommend you check your car before looking into buying one of these keys and being disappointed. A easy way to check is if you have the LCU05 unit in your trunk. (For those that are lurking)

I'm guessing this is a joke post but why? I recently installed a Avital2101L into my Maxima after going through tons of hoops to figure this stuff out. Not everyone is an electrician. These posts HELP people like me. There isn't a dedicated DIY instruction guide, and this along with some other threads (let me find them) are the ONLY helpful ones.

BTW for those that are doing aftermarket install, this helped alot:
