So i bought a I30, seemed like a great deal....
So i bought a 2001 I30 with 134,000 miles for $2700. The car would not start due to dead battery and idle issues. It also had a check engine light.
I knew it had a few issues, but I was hoping i could fix them relatively cheap.
Here is so far what i found and fixed.
Charged the battery, the car would start but not idle.
Had codes for Maf and IACV valve. Bought a new maf, car would run a bit better, but the idle was still crappy. Also the charge light was on, so found out the alternator was dead.
Started taking it apart to replace the alternator and both axles had CV boots totally ripped. So i bought 2 new axles, while looking at the front struts, both were leaking. So i bought 2 new struts.
2 days of hard work and I had struts installed, alternator replaced. Axles installed as well.
Started working on the idle issue, bought a new IACV, installed it, but it still doesnt idle and won't relearn. So i searched this forum and found that ecu can be damaged from a bad iacv valve.
30 minutes of cursing and busted knuckles had the ecu out. Open it up...... and 2 chips are blown and seconary damage on the pcb.
So now the question is, who knows a good place for cheap ECU's or a good repair facility?
Also when the car is running i can hear a hissing noise by the intake manifold, i sprayed some misty water on it, but i can't see any leaks. Could the noise be normal?

Hissing is due to upper intake manifold gasket leak. You might as well fix that while you're at it. It will run a lot better when cold then.
After it's all fixed, either replace the ECU in the dealer parking lot or be prepared to tow it there. You won't be able to start the car at all with the replacement ECU, until is reprogrammed by the dealer with Consult.

Auto or 5spd. Does anyone know if the 00 and 01 are the same? I know it's 3.0 but is did the egr or anything change? I'll PM this guy I know that had a 00 ECU he might still have it but I think it's 5spd...Also when you change the ECU you have to re-program the key

They rebuilt a customer's 1990 J30 ECM because he didn't wanna for out like a grand for a new one. I told him he could try that but no gaurantees from us it would solve his problem. Got it done and haven't seen him since.
You have to go in person because the parts guys sometimes aren't very bright so you have to kinda guide them through it, make sure its engine control module, i think its under emissions or powertrain section in their catalogue. Youll need to bring in your old one.

I had the same issue and got a 01 Maxima one from car-parts.com for 130 bucks. Since it wouldn't idle and it is still cable controlled, i just put a little rubber ring behind the throttle body and that let me drive it to the dealership.

Seriously doubt if the 2000 Max will work, but the 2000 I30 might. Why not just get the correct one?

Car-part is an excellent resource for interchangeability of components. 2001 Max ECU will work in a 2001 Maxima also.
