P0138 Code-ECM reprogram?
Folks,
I would appreciate your advice on whether I need to reprogram the ECM when I replace the Bank1 Sensor2 with the OEM sensor. The dealer's instruction calls for reprogramming of the ECM when you replace the sensor. I don't understand why if I plan to install OEM sensor and nothing shall impact the original configuration, but I am not sure and would like you to share your experience. I hate to go to a dealer and can reset the trouble code with the OBD scanner.
Appreciate your reply.
Also, what is the best place to buy the OEM oxygen sensor?
Thank you

If the manual called for it, I would tend to at least ask the dealer. Is there a good honest dealer in your area?
I would also tend to think you could unplug your battery for a few hours to "reset" the computer and accomplish the same task.
Personally, I would get the O2 sensor where you could find it cheapest as long as it was a good brand (Bosch) and definitely OEM.
Just some ideas for you.

"Is there a good honest dealer in your area?"-I doubt they are in business of explaining a lot. 3 local dealers all quoted $211 for a sensor and $300+ for replacement. They all said their internal procedure requires ECM reprogramming but could not (or did not want to)explain why.
I probably will go with Denso OEM O2 sensor and replace it by myself. I will also reset the trouble codes with the scanner-hopefully that will do the job.

I got the Denso sensor today from Amazon, Denso Part No 234-4270. It says it is direct fit, however, it is black color instead of white. I thought they will be color coded as the OEM sensors. It should be replacing the OEM sensor 226A0-5Y701.
Do you folks know if color code follows with sensors from Denso, NGK, Bosch?

Installed the Denso Part No 234-4270 and cleared the trouble code with OBD scanner. It works fine-was able to pass the smog check after I completed the "drive cycle". I could not get the clips for the original wire routing and used high temperature zip ties. If you will be buying OE O2 sensor try to get the one with wire clips. Amazon shows that Bosch (which is less expensive than Denso) comes with wire clips, but I am not sure at I read some of the Nissan forum comments that apperantly it does not. The entire job took me 2-3 hours at night with flash light-it is doable faster during the day light.
