It does sounds like a starter.
I recently published how to on my site, but it's for i35
I think i30 is not too different, but you can do more research on that

mine just went out at 99k on my 99 a32. symptoms sound exactly like the starter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw-ECOC7GUs followed this video helped a lot. you have to jiggle the starter out through the mess of wires and brackets around it.

yep you may be able to start it by hitting on the starter. That happened to my mom hah. My dad came brought a screwdriver and hammer hit the start while trying to start it and it started it. Temporary if you need it.

First I would never buy a used starter especially from the yard, unless you don't plan on keeping the car very long, imo it's not worth taking that chance just pay the extra and get a refurb or new and your good with at least a 2 yr to lifetime warranty. my2cents

Anyways as far as teh oil leak I'm assuming you did the install yourself , did you make sure to look over the area thoroughly? I'm trying to remember if there's something oil related on the Starter side but it shouldn't be that hard to find just follow the oil. Is is dripping near the Timing cover area? Bell housing area etc?
