My BiXenon HID Retrofit Build with LED xB Angel Eyes
My BiXenon HID Retrofit Build with LED xB Angel Eyes
I did a HID BiXenon retrofit recently and wanted to share the build and results with everyone. I also wanted to do something different. I purchased Eagle Eyes headlights and retrofit them with FX-R BiXenon projectors. I also used TheRetrofitSource's LED Miramoto xB Angel Eyes. Stock ballasts were used with Miramoto 4300k D2S bulbs for an OEM color.
Stock HID reflector headlights work pretty well, but the output here is phenomenal and looks fantastic.
The Eagle Eyes with very dim "angel eyes". They only had one LED in them each:

Opened up using an oven:

Removed the high beam bracket and junk projector:

Painted the all chrome shrouds to mostly black with some chrome. Also installed the xB LED rings. I ordered 90 mm which fit perfectly in the slot left from the junk LED ring. I used thread at the top, bottom, and side of each ring to tie it to the the slot (not shown here). I tried using double stick mounting tape but it failed so I had to open them up again and add thread around the rings.

LEDs on. They are super bright. Each ring has around 100 individual LEDs:

FX-R projector vs junk Eagle Eyes projector:

Mounted the projector in the housing. This was the most difficult part and required a lot of thought. I mounted it in such a way that I can adjust the cutoff height up/down as well as horizontal tilt or slope.

Baked and back together. Sealing them was a big issue as well and took some time. I fed the wires I needed through and used a mesh on the back side to fill the gap between the projector and the housing. I then masked it off and used Flex Seal to create a rubber barrier. It was the only thing I could think of to span a gap of a few inches and still allow some flexibility of the projector for adjustment. It worked out well.

Mounted on the car! Wiring was also an issue. I ran a separate wire from the interior through the left fenderwell to power the LEDs anytime the ignition is on. I tried powering them by tapping into the existing wiring there, but this essentially disables the Automatic headlight function which I did not want to lose.
In addition I used LED turn signal bulbs and had to splice resistors to slow the blinking to normal. The pre-made holes for the turn signals were horrible, as if Eagle Eyes didn't try at all. The shape was somewhat correct but the holes were so large that I could barely make the bulb fit without it shaking out. They were not even close to sealing properly so used butyl glue as an adapter to seal the socket to the housing.
Connecting the HIDs however, was easy as I used the stock ballasts with the new bulbs. This is a picture with just the LEDs on as they would be during the day.

Nightshots. Low beam:

High beam. I wired it in such a way that not only does the HID cutoff get raised, but the stock halogen high beams are also activated. Its extremely bright and I've found actually scares away deer.

I bought the LEDs (2 sets of 2) separately from them during their Labor Day sale because I was not sure how bright the original angel eyes were. The 90mm ones fit great but cost a bit more. I could have kept the original ones but they are not visible whatsoever during the day. I also could have substituted CCFLs which are about half the cost.
2 x Morimoto xB LED Angel Eyes (xB-LED) = $122.00
Wiring Basic (20" Pigtail) Configuration 5) 90mm White
Sub-Total: $103.70
USPS Priority Mail: $8.26
Coupon Labor15: -$18.30
Total: $111.96
The Eagle Eyes housings cost me $153 shipped in the chrome from ebay which was the cheapest I found. They have the same housing but painted in a similar way that I painted mine for ~$185. I couldn't figure out why it was more so I just saved the money and painted them myself.
The LED turn signal bulbs were ~$10 and the LED resistors were ~$6. I also bought a set of splice in connectors for all the wiring for $10 and another $10 for the Flex-Seal sealant. Little things add up.
Total: $460 I spent more than I thought!
