Optima Red Top fitment

Looking to buy a new battery, I see the red tops for 144 and yellow tops for 173 on amazon. Does the size 35 battery fit an 02 I35? Says on the autozone website it may require a "bottom height adapter" and to "check hood clearance". I searched the forums, but didnt come across anyone listing their battery number/size and if they needed this so called height adapter or needed to make any adjustments to make it fit. Any input would be appreciated, thanks

Or, if there are any other recommendations as to a battery I could get, thats possibly cheaper but offers the same type of performance, I am open to that as well

I own a yellow top in my 4th gen and it needed an adapter, which was included with the battery.
It should be the plastic topper on it.
Just flip it to the bottom. Spacer problem solved.
I think you chose a good brand IMO.

haha, awesome. Pretty much decided on an Optima. I dont have a sound system, or anything requiring the use of a yellow top, so I will more than likely just stick with a red top

Sounds good!
If its your first dry cell car battery; be ready to be pleasantly surprised with no corrosion on your terminals from now on.

I used to have a yellow top in my chevy blazer, then had a red top in my 95 Accord, but I let the guy who bought it from me keep it. I've had good experiences with them, although my dad had a red top for his 02 4Runner and it didnt last more than 2-3 years tops before having to be replaced. I have read a lot of iffy reviews on Amazon/Google saying the new ownership is all about profits, and is putting out bad batteries. But I figure if I can get it for 145 instead of 120 for a duralast platinum or whatever, Im ok with that.

You can use group 24F or 35. They are close to the same size and people use them both.

Confusion exists because Nissan does not specify a battery using the North American group size. Nissan specifies a type 80D26. Trying to find the dimensions for this battery yielded a varying size from each manufacturer. For example, height varied from 200 mm to 232 mm (7.87 in to 9.133 in). As a comparison, type 24F is supposed to be 9.0 in and type 35 is supposed to be 8.875 in. I used the term "supposed to be" as my numbers come from the battery manufacturer's association BCI. But checking sizes for batteries from different manufacturers revealed differences from one to another. Interstate offered 3 models of the 24F and all 3 were slightly different sizes. Frustrating.

just get a battery try for it:

A lot more secure than having it sit on that plastic piece. Also, remember yellow tops are designed for high amp loads and if it is not used in this condition then you really do not need it. The red top is designed for situations that require high CCA's such as cold wether environments or larger V8's.

Thanks for the input guys! I will more than likely get the Group 35, seeing as how it is supposed to be a little smaller, hopefully creating less hassle for me lol. It's really hard to beat 144 shipped off Amazon, so I will be ordering that tomorrow. I live in Wisconsin, so cold weather is definitely an issue for me, unfortunately.
