Loose Steering/Play

Hey everyone, I have an 02 I35 and for the past couple months now I've noticed the steering wheel is very loose and there's a good amount of play turning the wheel left or right. I remember if I used to make a turn and accelerated the steering wheel would quickly re-center from the torque steer but now sometimes the car will just accelerate with the steering wheel turned. When I go over bumpy roads the steering wheel just swings side to side a couple degrees in each direction and it really makes the car feel unstable. Also, at highway speeds the car pulls to the right but for some reason on long roadtrips there will be times when it seems to track straight for a while but then it'll start pulling again. However the play at low speeds is always there. I've gotten 3 alignments done and each time the mechanic told me the alignment has turned out well. The car is lowered but I had this problem even before then. I really don't know what to do since it makes the car very unpleasant to drive. I had a mechanic check the steering column and he said everything seemed to be fine. Any thoughts at all? Thanks in advance.

Check the bolt that connects the steering rack to the car. I had the same problem in my Wifes Mazda and the bolt had come loose. I hope it helps

Would you happen to know the name of that particular bolt by any chance?

I think I have the same issue. Steering wheel has to much play that it requires more control in wet weather. Changed the tie rod end links and that tighten it up a little the play is still there

I have to say I've got this problem too. I'm going to look for this bolt this weekend, if I can find it, I'll post some pics.
