I am thinking of ordering these size tires as you know the OEM size is 215-55-17 i just want to go a little wider.. 225 as opposed to 215.

Are there any issues i need to worry about??

 

Not particularly.

The 225 tire is about .4 inch wider. It will causes the sidewall to be taller than the stock tire as that height (the 55 number) is a percentage of the width. So the 255 tire has a sidewall that is .21 inch higher.

So the 255 tire has a larger diameter. It is 1.36%. Your speedometer will be off by 1.36%. So when the speedometer indicates 65 mph, you are actually going 66.1 mph.

If you like the tires, get them.

I will order them but I'am assuming the sidewall will be the same (55)
new tire= 225-55-17 (lil wider) vs stock= 215-55-17.

No, the sidewall height of the 2 tires are not the same. On the 215 tire, the side wall is 4.66 inches while the sidewall height of the 225 tire is 4.87 inches.

The 55 number is a percentage number. To find the sidewall height, multiply the tread width by 55%. Tread width is metric in millimeters (mm). So it is 215 x .55 or 118.25 mm for the stock tire and 255 x .55 or 123.75 mm for the replacement.

 

Can we squeeze 235s on the stock wheels? the 17s

 

The stock 215/55/17 tire has a tread width of 8.46 inches.
A 235 tire has a tread width of 9.25 inches.
The difference is 20 mm or about .79 inch.

It will work.

I finally decided to go with 225-50-17... I just dont like the fact that the rears are not flush with the fenders..

What size spacers would i need to push the wheels out a few mm??

 

Think about that question...

If you want the wheels to be out 5 more mm, try a 5mm thick spacer.
If you want the wheels to be out 10 more mm, try a 10mm thick spacer.

But depending on how thick of a spacer you choose, you may need longer lug bolts.

I put 235 55 17 Michelins on my 03 I35 and am very pleased with then handling and quietness. To me, the Maxima's I have had were notorious for road noise with the wrong tires. It did slow down my speedometer a couple mph at 60.

 

There are calculators in the tire & wheel forum that will tell you how much your speedometer will be off for what ever size tire you have or want to put on.
