Tire size help - 2000 I30T
Needing to buy new tires for my 2000 Infiniti I30T. The OE size is 225-50-17. To me they have always looked a little small/short. Was thinking of perhaps going to a 225-55-17 (same width, almost 1 inch taller) or a 235-50-17 (about .4 inches wider and .4 inches taller). Has anyone gone with these sizes on an I30/I35? Any other sizes you might recommend? I realize it will throw my speedo off but thats ok.
I'm not impressed with the Bridgestone RE92's that are on there now. There aren't many other choices in the 225-50-17 size. Going to 225-55-17 in particular opens up ALOT more choices.
Also looking for some tire recommendations (not Bridgestone RE92s).
Thanks!
Nick

Can you readily find those sizes (225/55 and 235/50) in 17 inch? Last I looked, there were as few choices in those sizes as the OEM size, even fewer in all season.
The current consensus is the Falken Ziex ZE-512s in the stock size for all season (it's not perfect but it's far better than the crapenzas). The other way to go is to go 235/45 17, but that is off spec because of the narrow 7" rim. Many people around here have gone that way with good results and the selection is much wider (and the tires are cheaper). In this size people swear by the Toyo Proxes 4.

Like CCS said...you can change sizes...but there will be tradeoffs.
People here have used 225/55/17 and it will fit, but you'll probably never be able to lower the car (without rubbing) and your speedo will be off. The tire will look very "thick" too. On the upside, you'll probably have a more comfortable ride.
235/45/17 is out of spec for a 7" wide wheel, but LOTs of people do it anyway, and without problems. You'll have some speedo error (as the tire isn't as tall) and probably some degradation in ride quality. You will, however, have a giant selection of reasonably priced tires.
235/50/17 is within spec for the 7" wheel, and if you compare its overall diameter with that of the regular I35 or GLE tires (215/55/17) you'll find that it's almost identical. Ride quality will probably get better, but you're going to find not too many choices in that size either (especially all-seasons).
I was in your boat. I replaced my RE92s with 225/50/17 Kumho KH11s (summer tires), which have been great. I now need new tires, and all-season ones at that. After debating long and hard, I decided to stick with 225/50/17 again. 235/50/17 tire options are slim, and I don't want to lose any ride quality with 235/45/17 seeing as I'm already on aftermarket suspension. Thus, I recently placed an order for Bridgestone Turanza LS-V tires. Based on all reviews I can find, they're excellent tires, and not too terribly expensive. Unfortunately I'm having to wait on them from TireRack, seeing as they're currently on backorder.

i have a set of 235-50-17 michelin pilot sports that i am going to put on my 4th gen maxima. i know the size is off but on the other hand the tires were free so i cannot really complain. all i need now is a set of 17 to mount the tires on. any suggestions would be great.
