Starter Issues? Need Help Please!
I went to start my I30 yesterday (139k) and it cranked as normal then just died without fully starting. I said thats odd...then I hear a whirring noise that stayed on even after I shut the key off which I figured was the starter. Jumped out and grabbed a wrench and disconnected the battery - low and behold the noise stopped.
Thinking its a sticking starter because when I go to reattach the battery cable after letting it sit for a little it does the same thing until I disconnect it. Also, if you try and turn the key nothing happens at all. Coincidentally, the car had the starter replaced a few years back by the previous owner and I also noticed a little uneven cranking/starting sometimes but didnt think much of it.
Not too familiar with this car so thats why Im seeking help. Any assistance is greatly appreciated - hell Ill even buy you a beer.
Heres a link to the video I shot showing the issue:

Your link doesn't work.
What you need to do is verify if it really is the starter making the noise or something else, like the motor mount. You will need to remove the air filter box to get access to the starter. Once you have the air filter box removed and can see/touch the starter, connect the battery and touch the starter motor. If it is making the noise, you will be able to feel vibrations.

I also think it is your starter. It was replaced, probably with a rebuilt one. Sadly, the quality of rebuilt starters is pretty poor. But unless you have lots of money to throw away by buying replacement parts because somebody on the internet said maybe, you need to test and verify that something is indeed bad.

Yeah, sounds like starter to me,
if you need to know how to replace it, I think replacement on i35 and i30 is almost identical.
