South Africa Maxima/i30

Hey Guys

Im new to the forum and just bought myself a 1996 stock Nissan Maxima here in South Africa. From what I can gather is that our Maxima here is a i30 in the States. Is this correct?

I have a few questions regarding performance upgrades. This coming Monday I am having a Free Flow System with Branches fitted, but my questions would be as follows:

1. Is it better to take out the stock intake and put a cold air intake or just change the filter that is in the car and leave the setup stock?

2. Does a maxima have a engine management system that I can chip? and if so what must I look for?

3. Any other ideas what I can change or mod that will give better performance besides doing a turbo conversion?

Any help would be great, thanks guys

Everything is in that link, but...

1) Adding a CAI will make a marginal difference, but will make listening to the car an enjoyable experience

2) Check out JWT ECUs

3) Too much to list, there is a lot man. Honestly, just search around but just to be nice:

Headers + Y-Pipe
Intake Spacers
3" exhaust

Usual bolt-ons. 3.5 swap is a good alternative instead of turbo route

Maintenance that makes a difference is fuel filter, and knock sensor.

In North America, Nissan sells Maxima, while Infiniti sells Infinitis, including the I-30.

Around here, Infiniti is an up-market Nissan. Yes, a Maxima produced from 1995-1999 is very similar to the I-30 you seem to have. You will find much more information on the 4th generation Maxima forum. Don't be shy, other Infiniti I-30 owners post there as well.

I own a 1996 Maxima. It appears to have the same mechanical items as your car.

I found that a K&N air filter that just replaces the stock air filter helps quite a bit. So does replacing the knock sensor. They often do not set up the check engine light when they fail. When I replaced mine, the performance was like night and day.

Just curious, what are the speed limits on the major between cities roads in South Africa?

Oops, just re-read your post. You say you own a Maxima. Just look in the 4th generation Maxima forum. You will find just about every thing you want.

There could be some minor differences between Maximas sold in North America and South Africa. Most could be related to pollution control. I have a feeling that your emission laws are not as strict as ours. That could be a good thing......

Our California specific cars have more emission control equipment than those sold in the rest of the USA.

You might introduce yourself on the Maxima forum, along with detailed pictures of your car. I am curious what the differences are between your car and what is sold in North America.

Stock Nissan Maxima in South Africa

Interior similar to Nissan Maxima in USA
Exterior similar to Infiniti I30 (except for the grille)
Engine-wise should be all similar (I don't recall if the newer Maxima has manual transmission)

Performance upgrades look into 4th Gen Maxima section

I haven't been there in a while but I think its 120km/h (around 74mph)

Having a 3.0 in South Africa must be expensive fuel wise....actually even a 2.0 is considered big in SA.
