Memory seat function comes/goes

What should I look for on my '03 i35? Bought it used last week, 48k original miles. Everything seams to work except for the memory seats. Both seats operate in all directions when you use the switch, but the feature that moves the seat back when you pull the key is intermittent as is the memory seat function.

For a week, I figured that those features simply don't function any more (no huge disappointment in a car as old as this), but, this morning, all features suddenly started working fine through two trips with the car.

Pulled into my driveway, features are gone.

Seems to make no sense to me.

What do you think might be the problem?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Just a guess

I am wondering that since your adjustment for your steering wheel probably goes through your spiral cable (clock spring) and this is part of your automatic seat adj. that you could be starting to have problems there. Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Could there possibly be a short in the Auto switch that turns the sliding back on/off?

I have rocked that switch several times. When the memory function is working, it works fine. When no memory, switch has no effect.
I was not aware that the steering wheel can telescope.
Thanks.

James:
Sorry, after re-reading your post, I see that I may have been reading more into it than what you intended to relate, but, thanks again for your reply.

Memory seat self healing

Seat auto position feature now working 90 percent of the time. Maybe it just needed exercise.

Infiniti memory seat fx

I just bought an 09 Infiniti fx35. I have been checking the memory seat fx. As I remember, the seat is not only supposed to glide back and forth, but up and down as well as you get in and out. Is the correct? My seat is not lowering when I exit, but I can do it manually with the lever. Also, the steering column is not moving with entry and exit. I can manually get it to glide in and out a few inches, (is this the max?) but the up and down fx doesn't work, just grinds. I know that the steering column was worked on before to eliminate "a noise." Could this be a sensor prob, or more. Thank you for any replies.
I have called the dealership, bc I brought these issues up with the salesman. He told me they were fine, but now I know they're not. I'm waiting for an answer from them. It has almost 87K miles.
