2000 I30 fuel filter is where?

The FSM I downloaded shows it integrated with the fuel pump. Says I have to drain and remove the gas tank. Are you kidding me?

But the filter I got at the store looks like an inline type, nothing like the manual illustration.

And somewhere else I read it is in the engine compartment, somewhere underneath the power brake booster, which would mean it is inline.

Thanks for input.

(The problem is stalling out, first at idle and now under throttle, and fuel filter was my first old-fashioned instinct. I will go read codes next and take a look at spark plugs etc but meanwhile I wanted to get this question out there.)

Its in the tank. Just did my pump and filter. You don't have to drain and drop the tank. If you pop out the back seat bottom in the cabin, there is an access hole. It will be the pump, float, and filter as one unit. Search, I know there is write ups on how to do it.

I THINK there are two fuel filters: one integrated with teh fuel pump assembly (very common with the advent of in-tank pumps) and a second one between the tank and the fuel rails, but I'm not sure where. The first one is usually free with the purchase of a new fuel pump assembly.

That's weird, rockauto has a listing (and pics)for what appears to be an inline fuel filter. Wonder where that could be located?

The 99 i30 used an in-line filter under the hood. With the body change in 2000, they went to a filter that is in the gas tank. The filter is one part of the assembly that also includes the fuel pump and the fuel level float.

You don't need to drain the gas tank, either. Just don't go and fill up the tank before you change the filter or pump or whatever.
